independent - Councillor Gary O`Leary

Gary O’Leary
INDEPENDENT Candidate
for Hertford Rural South Ward
“I will represent you and your parish on the
local issues you care about. No party line to
tow and real action. Our rural parishes could
see big changes in coming years; it needs a
pro-active INDEPENDENT councillor with a
track record of listening to residents and
getting things done.”
Election 2015: Vote for the party you want to run the Government, but at local
level think twice, local politics needs to change.
These are local issues affecting us all. As your Councillor I will take ACTION on
your behalf to achieve the following:
Protect Rural Village Character
Change Housing Proposals
Proposals for building East of WGC would
to Protect Green Belt
congest the A414 and put even more traffic
East Herts Council, working with Welwyn
Hatfield Council, plan to declassify large
areas of Green Belt to allow building of
4,000 houses between Hertford and
Welwyn Garden City. Across an area of
narrow Green Belt between two Herts
towns. Proposals include a large travellers
site close to Tewin borders. Our current
District Councillor has failed to represent
local residents on this issue and seems
more interested in representing the
planners’ and developers’ viewpoints rather
than the residents’. More houses may be
needed but development must be
appropriate and large scale sprawl on
important Green Belt should not be
considered.
through Bayford, Little Berkhamsted, Tewin and
the Greens. I want to see the rural nature of our
villages enhanced. I have and will support
communities on local initiatives to improve village
life and I know how to identify funding sources
from both public and private sectors to help.
Get Rural Broadband Access
Rural communities need high speed broadband
to stop communities being cut off and enable
businesses to function in 21st century. As I have
done in Birch Green, I will help get superfast
broadband to more villages.
Protect Rural Bus Services
With ageing populations, growing schools and the
need to link to towns and trains, we must retain
and improve our vital rural bus services.
Gary O’Leary - Independent
Better representation for Rural
Hertfordshire residents.
About me: I am a local parish councillor and school governor in Birch Green. I’m also
Chairman of Friends of Panshanger Park and of the Greens Residents Group. I pride myself on
getting things done and list some recent examples below. If elected I will bring the same
passion to supporting you individually and your communities in the parishes of Bayford, Little
Berkhamsted, Tewin, Hertingfordbury and the Greens. Having lived here for 12 years I greatly
appreciate our rural setting and the character of the area. If elected I will look to safeguard and
improve our area to benefit all. I will listen to, and work with, the community to get things done.
As an Independent I will have no party allegiance and will be free to serve residents without risk
of compromise due to party policies. I will be your unfettered voice at East Herts Council.
My track record:
1. I led representation at 6 day Public Inquiry to successfully stop an unauthorised Travellers
site. Community and councils fully engaged. Site was eventually prohibited by Secretary of
State in 2014.
2. In 2014 I helped gain public access to Panshanger Country Park after 20 years of delay. I
brought together 14 local organisations to work successfully together, and I remain the Chair of
that group.
3. In 2014 I led a team to bring pressure on County Council and BT to get Birch Green and
Hertingfordbury superfast broadband, we were the first villages in Hertfordshire to be delivered.
4. I helped obtain £45,000 funding, in 2013, from Landfill Communities Fund (Lafarge Tarmac) for
a new School/Community Hall.
5. I have been representing local communities to East Herts and Welwyn Hatfield Councils on
Green Belt destruction and proposed building of 4,000 houses East of Welwyn Garden City.
6. Currently campaigning for the retention of our local bus service 388 earmarked for
cancellation.
7. In 2014 helped launch the Panshanger parkrun, 200 people a week of all ages now
participating in a weekly 5K run/walk at our newly opened Panshanger Country Park.
8. Delivered solution to parking problems around local school by agreeing investment in new
crossings, pavements and school entrance with County Council in 2015.
