Community Hunts for Easter
Eggs at CCUMC
Sat., March 28, our church will once
again sponsor an event for the entire
community.
10 am – 12 noon there will be an Easter
Egg Hunt for kids of all ages, plus Games,
Snacks, Bible Stories and other activities.
Volunteers are needed to assist. Contact:
Lindsey Montgomery,
[email protected]
Fourteen people have enrolled
in Pastor Jenn Klein’s Sunday morning
Credo Class, learning about what it means
to be a Methodist, and strengthening their
faith. Among the youth and adults in the
group, nine of them are considering
membership in the church. Others are still
wanting to learn more, or are persons who
are already members but want to re-affirm
their belief in Jesus Christ. It’s an interesting
group and conversations are lively.
Historically, Easter is the day when new
Christians have confirmed their faith and
celebrated the risen Christ. Consequently,
our church will do the same on Easter
Sunday, April 5 at 10:45 am.
Health Ministry Aims to Serve
D.J. Tucker and other health care
professionals are looking for ways to serve
the church. Among potential activities are a
Community Health Fair, AED Training and
Emergency Response Training.
The newly-formed Health Ministry Team
will meet Sun., Mar. 8 at 12 noon in the
Upper Room. For more information, contact
D.J. at [email protected]

Help Clean Up God’s Countryside
CPR/AED First Aid
Sat, Feb. 28, Laura Ortmann arranged for
an American Heart Association Trainer to
provide instruction on the AED, Automated
External Defibrillator, and to re-train
individuals on CPR. Several individuals
signed up for the class and are now certified
by the AHA. They will take turns being on
hand Sunday mornings in the event of an
emergency where cardiac pulmonary
resussitation is needed. See the Church
Office for the schedule of who is
volunteering.
Emergency Response Teams
What if another church in our
community was struck by a tornado? Do
you or anyone you know have the
organizational skills to be an effective first
responder to remove limbs or help secure
the building? If our own church had a
catastrophy, how could we help?
This May, CCUMC will host two
training sessions for all area churches in the
Missouri Conference on Emergency
Response Training. Stay tuned for how you
can get involved.
Blue River Clean Up
Sat., Mar. 28 -- 9:00 to noon
For the 25th year, CCUMC has helped clean
up the banks and bottomland of the Blue River,
hauling off old tires and trash. Holly Mehl and
George Hanson are the organizers of this
mission project. Wear gloves and waterproof
shoes, just in case. Lunch will be served at
12:00. To volunteer or get more details, contact

CCUMC Sponsors New
So. African Seminary Student
The Cambine Theological Seminary is a
United Methodist-sponsored school located in
the Inhambane Province of Mozambique, the
same province as our sister church in Barrane.
Its purpose is to educate pastors and support
the vigorous growth of the United Methodist
Church in Mozambique. The school provides a
four-year program of studies to prepare their
students for ministry.
Four years ago, Letty Bautista, Susan
Fershee, Carol Mehl, Linda Neal Sally Smith,
Ken Starkey and Errett Schmid committed
themselves to sponsor a student at the
seminary, providing the necessary $660 a
year tuition. Their student, Florinda Fabiao
Timbe, graduated this December.
A new student has enrolled in the
seminary and is being sponsored by several
church members. Elizabete Carlos Cuame is a
21 year-old wife of a pastor and mother of
one child. She has a tenth-grade education,
was converted to the faith in 2005, and
became a full member of the United
Methodist Church in 2009.
If you are interested in helping sponsor
Elizabete, shown above, contact Linda Neal
or Susan Fershee for details.
Rev. Laura Murphy to Teach
“Parenting”
Laura Murphy is the pastor of Gashland
UMC north of the river, and an experienced
family counselor. She will lead the first in a
series of Parenting classes on Sunday, Mar. 1
at 6 pm. Her insights on toilet training, kids
earning allowance, and having chores to do,
should invite meaningful discussion.
For more information on this free
class, contact Tayler Klein,

Update on Mozambique
Water Problems
Water Well in Barrane
The latest update from the Mozambique
Initiative is that construction for digging a
well for fresh water is ongoing. When last
we heard, the digging equipment had
broken and workers were waiting for a new
part.
Money raised to date by CCUMC for this
mission project is $7,492.46
Flooding in North Country
Extensive flooding in northern
Mozambique has caused much devastation,
with over 100,000 people left without
homes, and several hundred dead.
Our Love Offering in February will help
provide food and supplies, re-construct
housing and provide first aid to families
there.
Contributions to date are $402.00.
