VIRTUS Facilitator Training Session
The family of Bernetta Berndsen
will be hosting a reception
celebrating her 90th birthday on
Saturday, March 28, 2015. It will be
at the Meeting Room at Lakepoint,
920 Lakepoint Drive, Augusta, KS.
67010. No gifts, please, but a card
would be appreciated.
In an effort to provide parishes with an
opportunity to train facilitators to present the
Diocesan Safe Environment Awareness
Session, we have scheduled a New Facilitator
Training Session. One very important
requirement is that the person has attended
VIRTUS prior to training and they are
committed to one full day of training. To
attend training, the individual is required to
have a letter of recommendation from his/her
pastor. The ‘New’ VIRTUS Facilitator
Training session will be held at the Cathedral
in Wichita on Friday, May 29th from 8AM
until 5PM in the Pius X room
Recommendations are due by May 8th

Fight or flight
Humans have often learned great lessons
from the animal kingdom. Whether it’s the
fables of Aesop or Jesus’ parables, you’ll
find our beastly brothers facing similar
problems and often finding wiser answers.
For instance, scientists have described how
animals when facing life-threatening
circumstance rely on instinct to tell them
how to survive: fighting the enemy or
fleeing the scene for safer ground.
Humans have the same instinct. Faced
with overwhelming events we run away or
fight back. But Martha gives us a third
option. After the death of Lazarus, she can’t
fight back - Lazarus is dead, after all. And
she refuses to escape into weeping like
Mary. Instead, Martha faces Jesus with
incredible faith saying “if you had been here
Lazarus would not have died, but even now
I know that whatever you ask of God, God
will give you.” When heartbreaking
circumstances arrived Martha ran, but she
ran to her Savior and asked Him to fight for
her. It’s the third option, not flight or fight,
but faith: seeking a bigger power to handle
the battle for you. Are you in the middle of
the fray today? Ask God to step out in your
place. He’s sure to protect the “survival” of
your “species”.
