NEWSLETTER 4th February 2014 Dear Parents Parents’ Evening Parents’ evening will be held on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th February. Please complete and return the form overleaf to indicate your preferred time slot. We will then confirm your allocated time nearer the date. School Meals Following queries from parents regarding the school dinner menu we would like to confirm that although it is not specifically mentioned on the menu a choice of vegetables, beans or salad is included with all meals purchased. Children are encouraged to make their own selection of these on the day. As you are probably aware school meals have to conform to strict regulations to ensure children have a healthy balanced diet. However if you have any concerns please contact the school office. Congratulations, Matthew! We are very pleased to report that Matthew Juckes of Swifts class has won his category in the Royal Tyrrell Museum’s Palaeo Arts Contest, Drumheller, Alberta, Canada. Matthew visited the museum whilst he was on a family holiday in Canada back in 2012. For the competition he had to draw a Stygimoloch (dome headed dinosaur) Feast showing all the foods that they might like to eat. Matthew has won the grand prize of $100.00. His name will now be entered into a prize draw at the museum where the winner will receive $500 for their school. The draw will take place at the awards ceremony on March 1st at the museum. Friends of Matthew’s family who live in Canada will be attending on Matthew’s behalf and will be seeing his art work on display at the museum. His artwork may also be displayed on the Museum’s website and potentially used for promotional purposes. Well done Matthew, we are all extremely proud of you. Competition Entries Thank you to everyone who has handed in a recipe for last week’s competition. We have been delighted with the entries and we hope to announce the competition winners in Friday’s assembly. The children will be working on the recipe book next week. This week’s competition entries need to be handed in by Thursday 6th February. Competition entries should feature a drawing with a short explanation and suggestions on how we would develop your idea. Next week’s Competition The final competition is a cake competition. We are asking the children to bring in a cake decorated with the theme of the invention of the ‘World Wide Web’. The cakes will be judged on the most imaginative idea possible. The cakes are to be brought in next Friday 14th February and will be sold straight after school. If you would like to purchase your own cake please let the class teacher know and we will reserve it for you. All monies raised will go towards the school garden. Malvern Spring Festival. Judging Day for the garden will take place on Wednesday 7th May. The Malvern Spring Festival is being held on Thursday 8th May to Sunday 11th May. We are currently looking into how we purchase tickets for the show and to find out more about the judging day. We do know that tickets for the show are available on the Three Counties Showground website and the Royal Horticultural Society website but we will update you when we have more information.
