LYDIA NECKLACE
The beautiful multistrand blue chip and green-accented necklace is stylish and fun to wear! The women
artisans of Noorjahan Enterprises in India are improving the standard of living for the community by making
this exquisite jewelry. The income that these women are able to provide for their families is allowing them to
save money for unexpected expenses. The necklace measures 30 inches. H133111 $29.99
After Sahid had his truck—his only means
of income—stolen from him in the big
city, he returned home to his Indian village
dejected and in desperate need. At just
the right time, Noorjahan Enterprises
reached that village and was able to offer
jewelrymaking work to the ladies of Sahid’s
household. With tools and training provided
by Noorjahan, the women were quick to
master the new skills and overjoyed to
bring in income for their home. And, not
only that, these women are now teaching
other nearby women how to make costume
jewelry, which brings up the standard of living for the whole community. They are also
learning to save for the unexpected as they
look back at what has happened in their
family. Noorjahan, which means “light of
the world” in Urdu, is becoming a light of
hope for the villages of India.

THYOLO PAPERMAKERS
The Thyolo papermaking and craft shop provides work for young artisans who have lost
their parents to the AIDS pandemic and who
now have few other income options. The
shop is diligent in using all-natural, sustainable materials to make its crafts. Artisans use
proceeds from their work to finish school,
to send their children to school, and even to
contribute to others in need, including the
elderly, widows, and AIDS patients in their
communities. The artisans also donate their
time to teach art to children in local schools,
again using renewable materials.
