 Cove Park Weston Jerwood Creative Bursary RESIDENCY & CREATIVE EVENTS FACILITATOR With support from the Weston Jerwood Creative Bursaries, Cove Park wishes to appoint a Residency & Creative Events Facilitator. This full-­‐time position based at Cove Park is for 6 months with a salary of £15,500 per annum pro rata is offered. The placement is an opportunity for a talented, recent graduate starting their career in the arts who meets the eligibility criteria. Cove Park Cove Park is located on an outstanding 50-­‐acre rural site in Argyll & Bute on the west coast of Scotland. Founded in 2000, we run a year-­‐round programme of residencies for national and international artists working in all art forms and at all stages in their careers. Our aim is to provide the vital support necessary to enable artists to experiment and to develop outstanding new work within a stimulating interdisciplinary context. In addition, Cove Park produces an innovative educational and participatory programme for the benefit of our local community and a national audience. This includes workshops, talks, readings and ‘Artists in Schools’: an annual project for primary, secondary and special needs schools within Argyll & Bute. Further information and images can be found at www.covepark.org. In June 2015 Cove Park will embark upon the development of a new purpose-­‐built Artist Centre, additional accommodation and studios. Due for completion in 2016, this development will allow us to support more artists each year and to offer an expanded, and fully integrated, educational and participatory programme. Cove Park is one of 40 UK arts organisations working with the Weston Jerwood Creative Bursaries to offer new graduates supported placements. At this exciting and key stage in Cove Park’s development, the Bursary Recipient will work within our experienced team of programme producers and support directly over 50 leading national and international artists, specialising in a wide variety of art forms, during our summer 2015 residency programme. The Weston Jerwood Creative Bursaries programme is run by Jerwood Charitable Foundation with the support of Garfield Weston Foundation, Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust. Role The Residency & Creative Events Facilitator’s role will be to offer vital practical support to the artists, both in terms of their experience on site and the development of their work. Responsibilities will therefore include organizing the artists’ travel, supporting them practically in the development of their work, enabling them to carry out research and to meet with other arts organizations/artists when necessary. The Residency & Creative Events Facilitator will also have responsibility for Cove Park’s internal creative events -­‐ an informal series of talks and studio visits designed to encourage discussion and debate among the resident and visiting artists, vital to the success of the residencies. This will provide direct experience of devising and delivering a programme within a vibrant contemporary art context. The Residency & Creative Events Facilitator will be supported by the programming team and line managed by the Director. Terms & Conditions • The appointment is full-­‐time for 6 months with a preferred start date of Monday 15 June 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter • The salary is £15,500 per annum pro rata • The role will be based at Cove Park, Peaton Hill, Cove, Argyll & Bute, G84 0PE • Working hours are 35 per week. The residency programme and creative events will necessitate some weekend and evening work. • Annual leave will be 21 days a year pro rata plus UK public holidays Duties & Responsibilities • Liaising with artists before their residency to ensure they have the information they require and their questions are answered • Welcoming artists to Cove Park and familiarising them with the site and facilities • Being the first point of contact for artists during their residency • Supporting resident artists in the development of their work enabling them to carry out research and meet other arts organizations / artists as necessary • Following up with artists after their residency to support Cove Park’s ongoing evaluation • Devising and coordinating internal creative events with the programming team and artists • Organising and supporting artists’ and visitors’ travel to and from Cove Park • Supporting administration of maintenance of accommodation, studios and facilities • Updating News/Events webpage • Supporting, compiling and sending of regular newsletters Person Specification Essential: • An interest in pursuing and succeeding in a career in the arts and creative industries • Previous involvement in or experience of delivering events • Confident communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills • Excellent organisational skills • Energetic and enthusiastic self-­‐starter • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction • Previous use of Microsoft Office, email programmers, web browsers and working on Macs • An eye for details, ability to be thorough and achieve high standards • Friendly and helpful manner • Want to temporarily live and work in rural Scotland • Full driving licence Desirable: • Experience of working directly with artists and arts organizations • Developing and delivering events in the arts and creative industries • Experience of working in a small team • Use of online file sharing (e.g. Dropbox) and project management websites (e.g. Basecamp) • Use of web content management sites (e.g. Wordpress) and online mailing services (e.g. Mailchimp) • Handling data • Own car is preferable Eligibility This post is offered as part of the Weston Jerwood Creative Bursaries Programme, aimed specifically at recent arts graduates whose circumstances mean they would not otherwise be in a position to develop their skills and CV through unpaid work experience. In accordance with the eligibility criteria for this Programme, we will accept applications from candidates who: • Have graduated since summer 2013 or will graduate in 2015 from a first degree (i.e. a BA or an NVQ6, or MA if from a Scottish university) in the UK • have received a maintenance grant during the full period of their course and be able to verify it with the necessary paperwork • have achieved, or predicted to achieve, a 2:2 degree or above • be full-­time resident in the UK Please see the Eligibility Criteria FAQs for more information. Notes for Applicants As a Bursary Recipient, the Residency & Creative Events Facilitator will be assigned an independent mentor. The mentor will meet with the Bursary Recipient for a minimum of three times: at the beginning, middle and end of their placement at Cove Park. The Bursary Recipient will also be mentored by Cove Park’s Director. The Bursary Recipient will have the opportunity to take part in the Weston Jerwood Creative Bursaries national programme of networking events. At these events they will meet other Bursary Recipients taking part in this programme, the programme’s alumni and industry VIPs. The Bursary Recipients will also be invited to take part in a series of up to three professional development events throughout their placement, supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Training Programme. As a condition of their placement, the successful Bursary Recipient will be asked to take part in an evaluation of the programme.
