CHEMICAL PROCESS CONTROL

ABOUT ICT
The institute was established on October 1,
1933 as the UDCT – University Department of
Chemical Technology. The Institute has grown
to become a deemed university devoted to
education, training, research and industrial
collaboration
in
chemical
engineering,
chemical technology, applied chemistry,
pharmacy, biotechnology and bio-processing.
The Institute has 11 Departments including
Department of Chemical Engineering and 6
specialized
Departments
of
Chemical
Technology.
ABOUT UGC-NRC:
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has
established a Networking Resource Centre in
Department of Chemical Engineering (CE) of
ICT for its outstanding contribution to the field
of Chemical Engineering. The UGC-NRC-CE
has been conducting regular research and
training programs for development of faculty
and research scholars of other institutes through
periodic discussions and regular workshops on
frontier areas of Chemical Engineering. The
objective of these activities is capacity building
in Departments of other Institutes for
augmenting their research skills.
ABOUT THE FDP:
Chemical process control is one of the most
important courses in Chemical Engineering
education as it has a direct relevance to the
operation of a chemical plant. In this course,
we plan to cover the basics of chemical process
control, some of the recent advances which
have been commercialized worldwide, and
some open challenges which researchers in the
area of chemical process control are addressing.
Such a training to the teachers of the course
will not only equip them to teach the course in
a better way, but also expose them as well as
their students to the current industrial practices.
This course will also motivate some of them to
pursue a research career in the area of chemical
process control.
SCOPE:
Typically the following items will be covered:
 Basics of chemical process control
(feedback control)
 Control of standard unit operations
(distillation column, reactor, heat
exchanger, etc)
 Controller tuning
 Multivariable control
 Advanced process control
 Industrial practices
 Instrumentation
