CLASS OF 2016
This is a polite reminder to all current juniors that when you start your senior year, there will be a immunization requirement. By the
first day of school of the 2015-2016 school year, you will be required to have a second Menactra (otherwise known as the meningitis) shot. This is a new requirement by the Indiana Department of Education. The only exception to this requirement would be if you
had your first Menactra shot on or after your 16th birthday.
Change of Administering Medication Policy
Starting in Fall, 2015, Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation will no longer provide over-the-counter medications (e.g., Tylenol/Ibuprofen,
antacid, Benadryl, Caladryl, burn gel and triple antibiotic ointment). If the parent or guardian wants their student to have these they must bring the
medication in an unopened container to the nurse and complete the Request to Administer Medication to Student During the School Day
form. The medication must also include the student’s name and date of birth written on the package/box. Finally, the parent or guardian must also
sign a Permission to Treat form that allows the nurse to treat and administer the medication brought from home. If you have any questions
please contact your school nurse, Mrs. Caldwell at 535-3138 or the corporation nurse Mrs. Johnson at 535-3889.

Developing reading skills is fundamental to student success. Please have your student keep reading by either accessing our Clark Pleasant Digital
Library or the print library found on the WCHS library homepage. Even over the summer, they can download audio books and ebooks to their own
electronic devices through the digital library (i.e., computers, cell phones, ereaders, etc.).




Go to cpcsc.k12.in.us/#wchs.
Click on ‘Media Center’.
Click on ‘Clark Pleasant Print/Digital Library’. The ebooks are NOW INCLUDED in the Print Catalog. It will specify whether it is in electronic version or not. Or if you prefer ebooks, just click on the Digital Library alone.
Login with your student id number. Pin is your student password. There are tutorials under the “Help” section. Find your device and
start today.
It is hard to believe another year has drawn to a close. School is almost over and another year is due to start on July 29. What can you , as a parent, do to keep brains active and engaged over the summer? Many of you will take vacations and sight see in various places, but even if you cannot
do this due to budget constraints there is still plenty available to keep students actively engaged and learning. Take them to places such as the zoo,
museums, etc. to learn about various animals and history. Teach them a new skill, such as cooking, or money management. If they meet the criteria,
have them volunteer at a hospital, day care, or perhaps a library. Keep them reading by joining the public library’s summer reading program, participating in our SIX -book summer reading incentive, doing crosswords, or playing board games. Whatever you decide to do, I pray
that you all have a healthy, happy, and relaxed summer break!
My constant goal is providing ways to help each and every student at WCHS to succeed and grow. Until next time…

Staying Connected with the Guidance Department
The guidance department has a wealth of information and wants very much to keep all families informed. Here are ways
that you can stay connected:
1.
Visit the guidance dept. webpage at www.cpcsc.k12.in.us/wchs. Click on the guidance department link for more
information on scholarships, colleges, and information specific to grade levels
2. Make sure your current email address has been provided so you can receive email reminders of upcoming events or
deadlines. Call the guidance office at 535-3189 to update your email address.
The WCHS Counseling Office is expanding!
We are excited to announce the addition of a fifth counselor to the WCHS staff. The new counselor will be named
at a later date. With this addition, counselor/ student assignments will be changing. Information about counselor
assignment changes will be released closer to the start of
the new school year.
New Student Open House:
The open house is set for Monday, July 27th beginning
at 6:30 pm. This evening is for 9th and 10th graders who
would like an opportunity to walk through the buildings before school starts. This is also a time for transfer students
to become acquainted with our school.
AP EXAM
Students who took an AP exam in May will be able to view
their scores online by mid-July. Please be aware that College Board is no longer sending out paper score reports.
Students must check online for results. Students should
refer to their AP Student Packs that were given to them to
keep after their last AP exam. AP Student Packs include
information on how to retrieve scores as well as the student's unique AP Student Number.
Class of 2016:
Senior Student and Parent Night is August 17th. This
evening outlines the steps of applying to college, provides
important dates for the senior year, and gives access to
admissions counselors for the most common colleges our
students are applying to. The evening will begin at 6:00 pm
in the high school auditorium.

Exciting FFA news to wrap up our school year!
1. Our Dairy Judging Team (Emily Dougherty, Autumn Peterson, Ethan Dougherty, and Eric Dougherty) competed at
State at Purdue and placed 8th out of 22 teams in the
State! Emily Dougherty placed 12th individually out of 75
contestants!
2. The following students were notified that they were awarded 1st in the State in their proficiency categories! This
means they will receive their awards at the FFA State Convention in June at Purdue and advancing to the National
Competition in October!! Congratulations go to…Emily
Dougherty (Fiber and/or Oil Crop Production); Ethan
Dougherty (Agricultural Sciences) and Eric Dougherty
(Environmental & Natural Resources Production)

Austin Corn and Eric Dougherty will present their District
winning Natural Resources Demonstration at State Convention and attempt to win a spot in the Nationals!

Warrior Wardrobe needs your help!
The Warrior Wardrobe was excited to have 140 different students
visit the pantry 419 times this school year. If you are interested in
volunteering during the school day next year, please contact Casey
Moeller @ [email protected]. We would like to have
the room open during GI on Tuesdays and Thursdays again next
semester. Also, any clothing and/or toiletry donations can be
dropped off at the WCHS main office during the summer. We really
appreciate your support!

Freshman, Eric Robinson (pictured at right) placed 1st in the state and 3rd in the national Investwrite Stock Market Game competition. This is a tremendous honor because over
4,000 students entered in the competition.
 The boys and girls track and field teams competed in the Mid-State conference championships. The girls team finished in 5th place with a score of 58 points. The girls were led by
a 2nd place finish in the pole vault by Alex Kirk, another 2nd place finish in the long jump by
Brianna Accinelli, two 5th place finishes in the 100 and 300 hurdles by Taylor Coffman and a
pair of top 8 finishes by Kerrigan Miller in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
 The boys track team had a historic evening. For the first time since 1977 (38 years) we brought home a MidState conference championship to Whiteland. Event winners for the Warriors included: Brandon Benson (200),
Djimmon Ogega (Long Jump, 400), Ryder Emberton (Shot Put, Discus), Jacob Ballain (pole vault) and the 4 x
400 relay of Jacob Walters, Shaw Cloud, Tyler Doty and Brandon Benson.
 This year marks the single most successful year for our Academic Teams. In addition to the Social Studies
Team earning the highest score in the state and qualifying for the State Competition at Purdue University,

the IASP has also recognized Whiteland Community High School as a "Top 10 Overall" school. This

was done by tabulating the scores for all Academic Teams from each school and then comparing the cumulative results. Not only did the Social Studies Academic Team qualify for the State event, they earned the highest score in the entire state in the
process! This has never happened in the history of our Academic Teams here at WCHS. The students who competed in the event were Kevin
Sanders, Wil Engelhardt, and Sophia Inns (coached by Mr. Justin Brownfield). Brittany Elkins, Micaela Gaviola, Lizzie Foist, and Justin Nguyen, and Bailey Tyner are also all members of the Social Studies team that qualified for the State Competition.
 A big congratulations to the Whiteland Concert and Symphonic Bands for both earning GOLD ratings at the ISSMA Organizational Contest held
at Shelbyville High School. Both bands had their best performances of the year.
 After many hours of planning and organizing, the annual Mixer was held in April with over 350 4th graders registered. This event has become a
tradition for the Peer Helpers and the elementary schools to help make the transition from 4th grade to CPI a little less stressful for both the child
and their parent. Alyssa Dailey, Maggie Leighton have lead this years mixer and have done an awesome job. Part of the funding for this event
is through a $500 grant received from Youth Philanthropy of Johnson County that the girls wrote and presented in March.
