Back Story You might have noticed, we colored pencil artists no longer have our separate class, “Color Drawing”. The Fine Art Exhibition for the S.D. County Fair has “lumped” us into their Printmaking Class 20, of Division 1001 (2-D). Due to the lack of Colored Pencil entries, a decision was made to make this change. Don’t you want to have our separate category again? All it takes is for you, our members to again submit at least 2 (two) of your CP artworks. Need help accessing the info online? Need assistance with your digital “capture”? The S. D. County Fair Entry Office is filled with kind, helpful people. I know this for a fact. Let’s Talk Money Awards in 2-D (Division 1001) has 26 classes; each class receives the following awards: 1st Place/$200, 2nd Place/$175 & 3rd Place/$150, and Best of Show for 2-D works/$250. Personal Note I have a long history (since 1959) with the Fairgrounds. As a student, during the summer, I worked there. It was the most fun I’d ever had. I can direct you to the Entry Office, contact me! Let’s work together to get our separate “Color Drawing” category back! The first time I arrived at a, CPSA DC202, meeting, in 2006, I did not know what was going on. I did not understand local and national, what? I was confused about the business part of the meeting. I thought, “I need help!”. However, the people were friendly and welcoming. Then I saw some of their work! Wow!!! I knew I wanted to be part of this group. I didn’t really feel ‘a part of’ until I started participating and volunteering. So my journey began. Later, I was asked to be Vice-President, me? I knew nothing!!! These kind people supported me and taught me what I needed know and do . As a board member, I truly began to understand the business aspect of CPSA DC202. I learned a lot. I learned about team work and being accountable. Being part of this group has really made a difference in my life and my art. I would not be where I am today if I had not said yes. Step up, join us, work with us. Be a part of this group. We need fresh creativity and energy. It can be a little or a lot of your time. It is up to you! Be happy, Blade♥ ARTIST & CRAFTSMAN SUPPLY Lois Adler-Roussell and Carolyn Kenny, CPSA for that very informative ‘demo’ about values and textures. We learned a lot about how “lines”, including how crosshatching can enhance our final project. You also offered a possible solution to the long time question, “What do I do with the back ground?”. Thanks again, there is always something new to learn. April Sale for Colored Pencil PRISMACOLOR Premier on Sale Just over $1 per pencil through April. This is your jump start for October 6th, 2015, when we will be accepting your fabulous colored pencil artworks for our show “Color in the Park: Balboa Park - Past, Present & Future”. In October, while “sitting” the gallery, work on your current project to demonstrate how we each are able to bring our ideas into a wonderful piece of colored pencil art. During our show, members with works accepted, by our juror, will have an opportunity to sell cards, prints, and original art. Carpe diem! COLORED PENCILS HAVE ARRIVED “Perhaps no other drawing medium has seen it’s stock rise so dramatically in recent years as colored pencils. The medium has only lately been adapted for use by fine artists, but colored pencil artworks are now purchased by collectors and exhibited in museums the world over. If you love drawing and love the feeling of a pencil in your hand, colored pencil might be worth exploring.” This is the opening paragraph from an article entitled Colored Pencil Primer by Sherry Camhy in the winter 2015 issue of Drawing Magazine. This issue is also packed with articles about colored pencil artists. Check it out. We can let go of any stigma the medium has had in the past. All our hard work is paying off. We as colored pencil artists are victorious. Bring out the champagne and let’s celebrate! I’ll draw to that!! We are colored pencils and we are a viable medium all over the world. 5
