Bay Area Water District Offers Rebates for Adding Flow Sensors to Irrigation Systems Recognizing the important role that flow measurement can play in water conservation, Santa Clara Valley Water District, serving the Silicon Valley is offering rebates of up to $1,000 to add flow sensors to residential and commercial irrigation systems. Many people are talking about water conservation but Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD) is taking action. They are offering significant rebates for upgrading irrigation system hardware to improve efficiency and conserve water. Flow measurement is vital to water management. Today, a flow sensor installed at the irrigation system point of connection and wired to an advanced irrigation controller provides the operator with continual monitoring of water usage. In addition, the flow sensor can detect unscheduled flow or inappropriate rates of flow identifying leaks, broken sprinklers or stuck valves, allowing the controller to close master valves and preventing waste. Creative Sensor Technology’s FSI series flow sensors are approved by SCVWD and ideal for the job. They interface with all approved Weather Based Irrigation Controllers. They can measure a wide range of flow down to very low rates, important with the increasing use of high efficiency nozzles and drip systems. Also significant, particularly in retrofit applications, is that FSI Series flow sensors create no pressure loss even at higher flow rates. In addition to CST flow Sensors, the Pathway Wire Sharing System (patent pending) has been approved for rebates by Santa Clara Valley Water District. The Pathway allows a new flow sensor and master valve to be retrofit to an existing irrigation system without adding new wire. Pathway utilizes existing zone valve wires as a communications path from the field to the irrigation controller.
