Most of them were lured into brothels with the promise of work in another town or city, or were sold by a family member thinking they would have better opportunities. Tragically, this is usually a lie and they are sold to brothels. Alone, vulnerable, penniless, ashamed, and under threat of violence, these young girls have no choice but to take “clients,” often servicing as many as 15 to 20 men a day. Many of them have been desperately crying out for rescue, for freedom, and, thankfully, their cry was heard. We are grateful for our partner ministry whose program provides the ongoing psychosocial, mental, emotional, and spiritual support these girls need to overcome the trauma they endured. The program also incorporates education and vocational training, which are important components in ensuring a viable and sustainable future filled with hope. They also provide recreational activities that help the girls develop healthy social interaction, relationships, and trust. This is a long term initiative that requires not only healing and help for the girls but also a change in societal perception and values. Join us in our efforts to spread God’s love and justice as we partner together with those on the front lines offering hope, dignity, and the knowledge that as God’s children they are worthy and valued. KENYA GIVE IN CANADA GIVE IN USA Crossroads Relief & Development PO Box 5100 Burlington, ON L7R 4M2 crossroads.ca | 1-800-265-3100 Crossroads Relief & Development PO Box 486 Niagara Falls, NY 14302 crossroadsusa.us | 1-800-265-3100 In 2011, when the “worst drought in 60 years” struck the Horn of Africa, Turkana, Kenya was one of the most affected regions. As a result, the most vulnerable in the community died, leaving mothers like Lokuyan to watch her twin babies die just two months apart because of a lack of food. We provided emergency food relief during the drought but we wanted to do more – we wanted to be a part of true transformation. After consulting with professional surveyors, hydrogeologists, civil and agricultural engineers, and an architect, a plan was developed that would transform the landscape and its people with a long-term agricultural strategy. Our goal is to “drought-proof” over 1200 families by digging 12 large-volume, solar powered borehole systems on four separate farm blocks. These farms will establish ¼ acre garden plots for families. Through our provision of seeds, tools, and agricultural training, they will be able to grow their own food year-round, establishing food security throughout the region! We do not want Lokuyan’s devastating experience to be repeated. Instead, we want to tell stories of lives that have been changed because of caring people who invested in a program they knew would make a long-term impact. Join us in transforming lives! UGANDA GIVE IN CANADA GIVE IN USA Crossroads Relief & Development PO Box 5100 Burlington, ON L7R 4M2 crossroads.ca | 1-800-265-3100 Crossroads Relief & Development PO Box 486 Niagara Falls, NY 14302 crossroadsusa.us | 1-800-265-3100 For more than 20 years, terror reigned in northern Uganda as the Lord’s Resistance Army attacked villages, leaving death and destruction in its wake. While peace has since settled in the area, 1.6 million people were left displaced from the conflict, living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. When they arrived back to their villages, which had been left abandoned for years, the need for food and water was critical. Agriculture Susan is a young widow with five children and one of the 2,500 families we have been able to help. Two years ago, Susan was struggling to put food on her table to feed her children. Now, she not only has enough food for her family, she has also been able to sell her excess crops to purchase a cow and goats and still has enough to pay the school fees so that her children can get an education! Her life has been transformed from one of despair and uncertainty to one filled with hope and promise. In 2007, we began an agricultural program providing mechanized farming techniques allowing families to plow two acres of their land. We also supply them with tools (spades, hoes, shovels, wheel barrows etc.) and seeds so they can begin growing their own food. As a result, many families can now feed their children, send them to school, and afford the construction of permanent homes. Clean Water In addition to the agricultural despair in Uganda, the conflict resulted in a water crisis. More than one billion people worldwide try to live on contaminated water and 1.6 million children will die as a result. In the past five years, we have dug new wells and repaired existing ones, giving more than 150,000 people access to clean water. Thousands of families in Uganda have had their lives transformed because of thoughtful people, like you, who understand that when you invest in agriculture and clean water – you are truly investing in long-term, life-saving solutions. UKRAINE GIVE IN CANADA GIVE IN USA Crossroads Relief & Development PO Box 5100 Burlington, ON L7R 4M2 crossroads.ca | 1-800-265-3100 Crossroads Relief & Development PO Box 486 Niagara Falls, NY 14302 crossroadsusa.us | 1-800-265-3100 Imagine a mother with children in east Ukraine, huddled in the root cellar of an unheated house, sleepless from the cold and the sound of bombing and gunfire. They are cold and hungry after months of fearful hiding. Imagine a wife with children, her husband in a Kyiv hospital, suffering from terrible wounds after limbs were torn off by a mortar blast. It is impossible for her to cover the cost of medication that he needs, let alone feed her children. These are the people we are helping. Over 900,000 people have been displaced from their homes due to the violent conflict that has plagued eastern Ukraine for almost one year. Thankfully, we were already working in Ukraine since 2006 and through trusted partners we have been able to provide relief supplies to thousands of families. Essential items like food, blankets, winter clothing, firewood, and cooking oil are some of the items we have been shipping into the crisis zones. Families that have had to flee their homes are huddled in churches and buildings, relying on the help of others. Our ministry partners are doing their best; however, financial help is desperately needed due to the extreme fluctuation of their local currency and the increased cost of supplies due to the ongoing conflict. Please consider helping us to extend God’s hand in mercy as they continue to face a violent and uncertain future. THE PERSECUTED CHURCH GIVE IN CANADA GIVE IN USA Crossroads Relief & Development PO Box 5100 Burlington, ON L7R 4M2 crossroads.ca | 1-800-265-3100 Crossroads Relief & Development PO Box 486 Niagara Falls, NY 14302 crossroadsusa.us | 1-800-265-3100 If someone came crashing into your home and grabbed your family and told you to renounce your faith in Jesus, while holding a gun to your head – would you do it? Living in North America and enjoying the freedoms that we do, we truly do not understand what people face many places around the world. We may see it on television and hear about it in the news, but we have never experienced that kind of fear or terror. Many of us like to think that we would stand strong and declare our faith in Jesus. Yet, we will not even share our faith with our neighbors for fear of being judged or ridiculed. Millions of Christians are being persecuted worldwide. Thousands of people have had to flee their homes, leaving everything behind as they run and hide for fear of being caught, imprisoned, tortured, or even killed. We are grateful to be working with a ministry that understands the challenges these families face and through your support, are able to provide safe shelter, food, blankets and clothing – relief supplies that these Middle Eastern families so desperately need. The Bible is very clear that as Christians we will face persecution. It also says that if we persevere ours is the Kingdom of Heaven. We need to stand strong with fellow believers and support them in their faith. When one suffers, we all suffer. We are to be one body, one spirit, and one hope. Join us by giving hope!
