BRITISH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION
ALYSON APPOINTED LADIES PRESIDENT
ALYSON EVANS has the honour of being elected the 2015 President of
the British Crown Green Ladies Bowling Association. Alyson was
nominated by her North Warwickshire association and follows in the
footsteps of her county colleague, Lorna Perry, who held the presidency
in 1993/94.
A member of the Dunlop Club, Alyson has well over 50 caps for her
county and has won her county merit on no fewer than four occasions
and the BCG Ladies Average Winners Classic.
A regular competitor on the bowling circuit, she is a former Isle of Man
champion, winner of the Grange Ladies Classic in 2013 finishing
runner-up last year and a previous winner of the Waterloo Ladies pairs
with her sister, Chris Davies.
Alyson has a busy twelve months ahead of her and her first duty will be
to present the trophy to the winning team at the Ladies Club
Championship, a competition she will be playing in herself.
This year Alyson is running a ladies one-day open competition in aid of
Breast Cancer Research.
The Dunlop Ladies Open Singles, The
President’s Cup, takes place at the Dunlop Club on Saturday 6th June
and entry details are below.
Alyson will be supported by Deputy President Carol Taylor (Mid Cheshire) during her year in office before she takes up
the presidential chain next year.
Sue Todd continues as Secretary (and Welfare Officer) with Helen Clee looking after the finances as Treasurer.
Christine Jordan remains as Chairman with Brenda Jones as her Vice-Chairman. Pat Crowther takes up the new
position of County Championship Secretary relinquishing her role as Competitions Secretary for which there is now a
vacancy. Angela Gaut and Anne O’Loughlin are Committee Members.

SOUTH DERBYSHIRE WITHDRAW
With the news that the South Derbyshire Association have withdrawn from the British Crown Green Ladies 2015
County Championship, the draw has been amended to make four sections of five teams rather than the customary three
sections of five teams and one section of six teams.
It was decided at the recent County Secretaries Meeting that one of the six teams in Section 4 is moved to Section 3 to
replace South Derbyshire. All names were put into a hat with Shropshire drawn as South Derbyshire’s replacement.
The fixtures will remain the same in both sections but in Section 3 any fixture against South Derbyshire will now be
against Shropshire while in Section 4 any fixture against Shropshire will become a bye week.
Sunday 26th April (2pm) gets Match Day 1 underway and the revised opening fixtures are:
Section 1: North Shropshire v North Midlands, Dudley v Cumbria, North Derbyshire (bye)
Section 2: Yorkshire v Wirral, Wales v Greater Manchester, North Warwickshire (bye)
Section 3: Lancashire v Shropshire, Cheshire v North Lancs & Fylde, South Staffordshire (bye)
Section 4: Mid Cheshire v South Yorkshire, Warwick & Worcester v Burton, Staffordshire (bye)
LADIES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW
The BCG Ladies Club Championship takes place on Sunday, 12th April on greens In the Whitchurch area. Groups 1 and
2 play at Bridgewater BC, Anchor Close, Whitchurch, SY13 1TJ with Groups 3 and 4 playing at Chester Road BC, The
Firs, Chester Road, Whitchurch, SY13 1NL. Play gets underway at 9.30am. Four previous winners are in the line-up in
which the club champions will be divided into four groups playing on a round-robin basis. The four group winners
progress to the semi-finals with the successful teams contesting the final. The semi-finals and final will be held at the
District Club, St John Street, Whitchurch, SY13 1QT.

2015 WORLD CLUB
CHAMPIONSHIP
With one qualifying week and just two places left to complete the final day line-up of the 2015 BCGBA World
Club Championship, sponsored by REHAU, Lloyd Hotel will be hoping to join M&B Cheslyn Hay as the only
former winners left out of the 32 strong field.
M&B Cheslyn Hay of Staffordshire, the defending champions, ended the hopes of two -time winners St Josephs of
claiming a hat-trick of titles when they comprehensively defeated their North Lancs & Fylde opponents by 40 in
the final qualifying match in week three of the competition.
Lloyds, the 2012 winners, first have to overcome Dukenfield Central and, if successful, face the winners of the
Meir Social v Willenhall Nordley clash for a place in the last 8 on Sunday 19th April. Finals day gets underway at
11am at the Irlam Steel Recreation Club (Manchester Road, Irlam M44 6AJ) venue.

FORTIS SIGN ON
Following last month’s announcement that FORTIS SPORTS SOLUTIONS are to supply shirts for the Senior Individual
Merit, Junior Individual Merit and Champion of Champions, Commercial Officer, Mel Evans MBE, has signed a three
year deal with FORTIS to be the BCGBA approved shirt suppliers.

The final officer position, Development Co-ordinator, has now been filled with Fred Brazendale from Shropshire
recently appointed. Fred is wished every success in his new role and will get to meet the County Development Officers

THREE ALREADY BOOKED IN FOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
Steve Porter is the first name on the list of qualifiers for this season’s Champion of Champions, sponsored by FLOWFIT,
following his 21-20 victory over the defending champion, Liam Howard, in the Cumbria Merit. Steve will be joined by
Dan Petcher who beat Scott Fisher 21-17 in the final of the Tony Pagett Open and Andy Hughes who defeated Joe
Williamson 21-13 in the final of the Meole Brace Open. Hughes was runner-up to Wayne Rogers in last year’s Meole
Brace final and started the day with very generous odds at 40/1!

LYNN’S CHARITY SWIM
Globegigg co-presenter, Lynn Pritchatt, is doing the Swimathon on Saturday 18th April in aid of Marie Curie Cancer
Care. This involves swimming 1.5 kilometres in 60 minutes and all donations will be most welcome for this very
worthwhile cause. She has now set up a Just Giving account where you can make an online donation via the
http://my.swimathon.org/sponsor/lynnpritchatt link. You can also donate to her (or her doubles partner Mel Evans
MBE) in person if you see her around the bowling greens in the coming weeks.
Lynn is in full training at the Cannock Leisure Centre pool at 6.30am each morning. She is delighted with the
fundraising effort so far and thanks the people who have generously donated their hard earned money. It is very much
appreciated with every penny going to this worthwhile cause. She has already exceeded the Swimathon fundraising
target of £180 and has raised £400 to date.

GREG WINS LES EVANS MEMORIAL CLASSIC
The 2013 All England Champion, Greg Smith, cruised to victory in the £2,000 Les Evans Memorial Classic at Chadsmoor
Progressive WMC on Bank Holiday Monday. Smith enhanced his reputation as one of the country’s top players with a
superb display of bowls to defeat North Midlands star Darren Plenderleith 21-10 in the final.
In the semi-final Smith swept aside Colin Beaman 21-6 while Plenderleith edged out former winner Andrew Spragg 2118 to reach the final.
£2,000 prize money was presented by Simon Parsonage, Managing Director of FLOWFIT. The tournament was kindly
sponsored by Flowfit, Mel Evans MBE, Lynn Pritchatt, Albert Redding, Chris Powell & PKB Rendering & Plastering Ltd.
