Session Date Time Speaker 1C – Air Leakage Testing in Commercial Buildings Thursday, May 28, 2015 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Kevin Knight, Ken Klassen and Gary Proskiw There is growing recognition that minimizing uncontrolled air leakage is one of the most important and cost-effective but overlooked ways to improve energy performance, durability and comfort in new and existing buildings. This presentation by Kevin Knight and Ken Klassen of Red River College and Gary Proskiw of Proskiw Engineering will explain how excessive air leakage can negatively impact your projects; review new developments and trends in building and energy codes, product standards, commissioning protocols and training related to air leakage; and provide insights gained through recent research and field tests of the air leakage characteristics of commercial and institutional buildings in Manitoba. Kevin Knight is a building envelope authority with over 30 years’ experience in field observation and testing, commissioning, research, education and training. Kevin is a Project Technical Advisor at the Red River College on Building Science and Energy Efficiency and is the President of Retro-Specs Ltd. Kevin has collaborated with federal and provincial governments, utilities, and private sector companies on many projects. He has had numerous papers published in Canada, United States and Europe, and is a frequent lecturer on building envelope science. He currently sits on the ASTM E06 Performance of Buildings co-chair for the Standard Practice for Enclosure Commissioning, and chair for the Enclosure Commissioning Training and Certification, is a member of Society of Protective Coatings and Chairs the Commercial Air/Vapor Barriers Committee.
