3 Annual Oscar Romero Lecture featuring
Elpidia Carrillo, Actress & Activists
A hero to people of El Salvador and the progressive
liberation theology movement in Latin America, Archbishop
Romero is honored in this annual lecture. The lecture will
feature actress & activist Elpidia Carrillo who co-stared in the
classic film “Salvador.”

TUESDAY, MAY 5th
Platica & Book Signing: Dr. Armando Navarro
“Mexicano and Latino Politics and the Quest for
Self-determination: What Needs to be Done”
Dr. Armando Navarro, professor in the Ethnic Studies
department at UCR has published his sevenths book which
focused on the current state of Mexican & Latino politics.
The book outlines models for progress and change.
A book signing will follow presentation.

Chicano Art Workshop with Dewey Tafoya
Join us for a Chicano Art workshop featuring Dewey
Tafoya resident artist at Self-Help Graphics in Los
Angeles, CA. Learn about the creative process of screenprinting. All workshop materials will be provided.

THURSDAY, MAY 7TH
Root Causes of Immigration from Central
America & México
This workshop will provide an overview of the root
causes of immigration to the United States. The
workshop will cover the long and violent history of U.S.
intervention in creating the destabilization in Central
America and México.

FRIDAY, MAY 8th
18th Annual Radio Aztlan Music Festival
The music festival will include The 44s, Los Chilaqz, René
René, and Tierra. The event will feature a performance by
the Original Lowrider Band with hits like “Lowrider” and
“Cisco Kid.” Tickets are $25 in advance & $30 at the door.
Doors open at 7pm – Show starts at 7:30pm
University Theater
We invite you to join in the festivities where we’ll be enjoying
food and música in celebration of Semana de la Raza with a
special performance by Mariachi Los Camperos.
