From our Pastor...
We came to church today for many reasons: some of us because it is what we do
every Sunday; others because we were invited by a friend; some because we had
some notion that we “should”. All of us, though, have come into contact with the
greatest piece of news ever reported: “Jesus is not here. He has been
raised!” (Matthew 28:6)
The announcement of the Resurrection is the very reason Christianity exists. Everything Jesus said and
did does not make sense unless we understand who it is that said and did those very things. Jesus’ birth
and early life hold no interest for us if they are not the beginning of a life unlike any other. Christ’s death
on the Cross is just the end of a strange and sad story if He has not gone through death to a new and
indestructible kind of life.
Saint Paul says, “And if Christ has not been raised, then empty is our preaching; empty, too, your faith…If
for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are the most pitiable people of all.” (1 Corinthians 15:15;19)
And so, we have come to church today to put ourselves in the way of this announcement, to bump into
again the glorious news that sin and death are not the last words of human life. Christianity is not just a
message, to be set alongside all the other messages of the great world religions, in some sort of museum
collection. Christianity is as real as an empty tomb, or as a man who says “Do you have anything to eat?”
before His dumbfounded friends.
Christ eats and drinks with His disciples after His Resurrection precisely to show that He is no ghost:
“Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh
and bones as you can see I have.” (Luke 24:39) The disciples did not understand what was going on at
first, but it soon became clear that this was the most important thing that had ever happened to them.
And when the Holy Spirit came upon them, these fishermen began to wander around the Roman Empire
telling others about this man. They collected the stories, the teachings, the miracles, that had to do with
their Risen Lord. They spoke to His Mother about His miraculous birth. They continued to remember Him
in the “breaking of the bread”, which He had asked them to repeat “in memory of me.” (Luke 22:19)
These disciples would give up their lives for this man who had given up His life for them, precisely because
Christ’s Resurrection had shown them that “death has lost its sting” (1 Corinthians 15:55). These lives laid
down bore incredible fruit in new believers who continued to announce the greatest news: “Christ is
risen!”
And so on…until my grandmother told my father, who told me. And so on…in your countries of origin
and in your families, all the way down to you. My friends, let us add our voices to this “great cloud of
witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1), let us lend our voices to Christ, so that even in our world today this news may
bring hope to those in the darkness of sin and death, and bring life to the world. Indeed He is truly risen!
In Christ,
Pastor

Beautiful Savior, King of Creation,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I’d love thee, Truly I’d serve thee, Light of my soul, my joy, my crown.
Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands, robed in flow'rs of blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer; He makes our sorr'wing spirit sing.
Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight, Bright the sparkling stars on high;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer, Thank all the angels in the sky.
Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, Praise, adoration, Now and forevermore be thine!

I believe in the Son, I believe in the Risen One
I believe I overcome, by the power of His blood
Amen, amen, I'm alive I'm alive because He lives
Amen, amen, let my song join the one that never ends (Because He lives)
I was dead in the grave, I was covered in sin and shame
I heard mercy call my name, He rolled the stone away
Because He lives I can face tomorrow, Because He lives ev'ry fear is gone
I know He holds my life, my future in His hand

It’s the weight of Your glory brings the proud to their knees,
And the light of revelation lets the blind man see.
It’s the power of the cross breaks away death’s embrace,
And we celebrate our freedom, dancing on an empty grave.
Roll away the stone. Roll away the stone!

You declare what is holy, You declare what is good.
In the sight of all the nations You declare You are God.
It’s the power of Your blood breaks away sin’s embrace,
And we celebrate our freedom, dancing on our broken chains.

The greatest day in history, death is beaten, You have rescued me.
Sing it out, Jesus is alive.
The empty cross, the empty grave, Life Eternal, You have won the day.
Shout it out, Jesus is alive. He’s alive!
And oh happy day, happy day, You washed my sin away.
Oh happy day, happy day, I’ll never be the same!
Forever I am changed!
When I stand in that place, free at last, meeting face to face. I am Yours, Jesus You are mine.
Endless joy, perfect peace, earthly pain finally will cease. Celebrate, Jesus is alive. He’s alive!
Oh, what a glorious day, what a glorious way, that You have saved me.
And oh, what a glorious day, what a glorious Name.

De Nuestro Párroco...
Venimos a la iglesia hoy por muchas razones: porque siempre venimos los domingos;
