General Information
Introduction:
Today’s complex engine, transmission and power generation systems demand high quality interactive
classroom and hands-on technical training. We provide affordable training with state-of-the-art
equipment, repair procedures, and live engine, transmission and generator troubleshooting.
Cummins Pacific Training Center classes are sized and monitored to assure proper student to instructor
ratio providing personalized performance based training to all students.
Cummins Pacific Training Center delivers the best training because we have the best instructors. Our

knowledge. Through a comprehensive trainer development program, our instructors are provided with a
curriculum which teaches instructional concepts, benefiting adult learners with diverse learning styles.
Also, Cummins Pacific’s instructors are kept on the leading edge of changing technologies, by attending
courses at Cummins Inc, Allison Transmission, and Cummins Power Generation. These classes provide
the latest technical information, procedures, and techniques available. This insures each student receives
up-to-date information and instruction.
Enrollment Procedures:
1. Phone Cummins Pacific Training Center and Request Only enrollment for a particular course, or.
2. Complete the enclosed Request Only for enrollment
3. Detach and forward to Cummins Pacific Training Center (Mail or Fax).
3. Classes are limited to 6 to 12 students, based on curriculum.

Payment Procedures:
1. Prepayment by check or purchase orders is required with enrollment Request Only, or presented by
the student prior to the start of class. VISA/MasterCard and AmEx are also accepted.
2. Prior credit approval is necessary for all company purchase orders.
3. Cancellations made less than five (5) working days prior to the class start date will be
subject to a $100.00 cancellation fee. The balance of the tuition may be applied to a future
training session.
4. If a student does not attend class and fails to cancel with the Training Center, he/she will be billed
for the full amount of the class.
5. Refunds will not be granted after class begins.
6. If, for any reason, the training class is canceled, students may either apply the tuition towards a
future training class, or Request Only a refund.
Daily Schedule:
Typical program hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with ample breaks and a one hour lunch period.
Homework may be assigned each evening to help students comprehend the material covered and to
increase classroom hands-on time.
Books, Tools, and Supplies:
Cummins Pacific Training Center provides the manuals and tools used while attending class. The
appropriate handout literature will be given to each student and is included in the tuition cost.
Safety – Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Students must wear clothing suitable for working on engines and other hardware during lab sessions.
Shorts, sandals, and sleeveless shirts are not considered appropriate clothing and will not be permitted.
OSHA regulations require that all technicians wear safety shoes meeting ANSI standards. Safety
glasses and ear protection will be provided. Side shields for prescription glasses will not be
provided but must be worn. Students attending Power Generation courses may be required to
wear PPE as outlined in the NFPA 70E regulations. Students not wearing proper PPE will not be
allowed in the shop area.
Recognition:
A Cummins, Allison, or Power Generation certificate will be awarded to each student upon successful
completion of the course. In some courses students will be required to take a written test and perform
hands-on tasks, and must make a passing score to receive a certificate.
Lodging:
Payment for hotel accommodations is the responsibility of the student.

A course designed to familiarize the Cummins Warranty Decision Maker with an understanding of proper claim
preparation, documentation, SRT, and procedures. Qualification testing is included.

2. Cummins Electronic Engine Diagnostics (BETT) (2006-13Q)
Covered in this course will be Basic Electricity Fundamentals and diagnostic tools, Wiring Diagram
Familiarization, Electronic Troubleshooting Trees and a common sense approach to Electronic Diagnosis.
The student will be required to use the INSITE Diagnostics program.

3. Engine Operation and Troubleshooting
This course is designed to introduce the technician to basic engine operation. Topics covered in this course
will be Engine Mechanical Operations, Proper Engine Identification, Engine Systems Operation and
Troubleshooting such as the engine cooling system, lubricating system, fuel systems and combustion air
system. The student will become familiar with the Symptom Based Troubleshooting Trees published on
QuickServe On-line.

4. Cummins Emission Control System and Aftertreatment
This course is designed to introduce the technician to Cummins Emission Control System and Aftertreatment.
Topics covered in this course will include in-cylinder NOx reduction (EGR), as well as off-engine components
for particulate matter reduction (DOC, DPF), and further NOx reduction (SCR). Also covered will be the
changes in controls, components and diagnostics from EPA 2007, EPA 2010, and EPA 2013 Emission
Standards, as well as a live demonstration of the systems in operation.

5. 2013 CM2350 Engine Qualification (2010 Qualified) (2012-22Q/24Q/25Q/31Q)
This course will cover the changes to the 2013 Automotive Engine Products. Incorporated in this 3 day
course will be the ISX15 CM2350, ISX12 CM2350, ISB6.7 CM2350 and the ISL9 CM2350. This course has
been developed to qualify those who have been previously qualified on the 2010 Automotive Product. Also
covered in this course will be the new Expert Diagnostic System (EDS).

6. 2010 CM2250 Combination Engine Qualification (2009-30Q/31Q/37Q)
This course will qualify technicians on, ISX15, ISB 6.7, ISC 8.3 and ISL 9 CM2250 diesel engines. An intense
5 day course designed to cover, the new 2010 diesel engines, SCR systems, and the XPI high pressure
common rail system. Students must be ISX CM871, ISB, ISC, ISL CM2150 qualified.

7. ISX15 CM2250/CM2350 Engine Qualification (2012-22Q & 2009-37Q)
This course will cover in detail the ISX15 CM2250/CM2350 Engines. Topics to be covered will be changes
to the ISX15 Base Engine such as the engine gear train, the new XPI High Pressure Common Rail fuel
system for the ISX. Cooled exhaust Gas Recirculation, and CM2250/ CM2350 Control System diagnostics.
Also covered will be the Selective Catalyst Reduction aftertreatment system, for the 2010 - 2013 automotive
product. Also covered in this course will be the new Expert Diagnostic System (EDS).

down and reassembly of the ISX 11.9/12 Engine.

10. ISM/ISX Engine Qualification CM871 & CM876 (2006-30Q & 2006-31Q)
This course is designed to familiarize the technician with the changes made Cummins ISM/ISX engine for
2007. Topics include features and design components. Also included in this course are systems
troubleshooting, wiring diagram interpretation, cooled EGR, VGT, exhaust aftertreatment and practical
application utilizing Insite. Written and practical application testing involved.

11. ISLG CM2180 Engine Qualification (2007-28Q)
This course covers the new 2007 ISL G engine that operates on compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied
natural gas (LNG). Topics of this course include safety procedures, engine familiarization, scheduled
maintenance, and troubleshooting of engine systems and electronic controls. Students need to have a basic
knowledge in electronic troubleshooting as well as being familiar with the INSITE diagnostic tool.

This course covers the new 2013 ISX12 G CM2180 engine that operates on compressed natural gas (CNG)

scheduled maintenance, and troubleshooting of engine systems and electronic controls. Students need to
have a basic knowledge in electronic troubleshooting as well as being familiar with the INSITE diagnostic tool.

13. ISL G/ISX12 G CM2180 Engine Qualification (2007-28Q & 2012-35Q)
This course combines the ISL G and ISX12G CM2180 engine into a week long course. This course covers
the both engine platforms that operates on compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Topics of this course include safety procedures, engine familiarization, scheduled maintenance, and
troubleshooting of engine systems and electronic controls. Students need to have a basic knowledge in
electronic troubleshooting as well as being familiar with the INSITE diagnostic tool.

14. ISX Mechanicals (3114 & 3115)
This course will cover the unique mechanical procedures used in repair of the ISX engines.
Topics to be covered will be: Engine Base Timing Procedures, Front Gear Train Set up

15. QSF2.8 CM2880, QSF3.8 CM2350 EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IV Qualification (2014-01Q/12Q)
Cummins answer to the Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IV engine solutions is the QSF series of engines. This course
will qualify technicians on the full authority electronic controls, High Pressure Common rail (HPCR) Cummins
wastegated turbocharger, Cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (CEGR), and the Cummins Compact Catalyst
(CCC). Training will also include the “Direct Flow air cleaner”, and the QSF 3.8 stand-alone Selective Catalytic
Reduction (SCR) aftertreatment system. This is a hands-on class with attending technicians performing a
complete disassembly, and assembly of a QSF2.8 engine.

16. ISV5.0 CM3230 V104 Engine Qualification (2014-38Q)
This course is designed to introduce and qualify the attending student on the new ISV5.0 CM3230 V8 diesel
engine. Class instruction will include disassembly/assembly the engine, and focus on controls/diagnostics.
Topics covered in this course include base mechanical, air handling, Bosch high pressure common rail fuel
system, exhaust gas recirculation, and aftertreatment systems. Unique aspects of this course include
piezoelectric injection, fuel balance control, injector diagnostics, hydraulic lash adjustors, glow plug control,
CM3230 controls, adaptive learn, and a chain driven overhead cam system.

Technicians will be instructed on proper disassembly and reassembly procedures using published Cummins
parts reuse guidelines and repair practices. The inspected items are covered in detail.

18. N.O.W. (National Overhaul Warranty) Qualification, (2006-31Q)
ISM Series Engines
Cummins Inc. requires any authorized service location that wishes to perform NOW overhauls on ISM CM876
to have NOW qualified technicians. Topics of discussion include, engine disassembly, inspection cleaning,
proper documentation, engine assembly, and administration of warranty. Attending technician must be
journeyman level and have completed Insite, BETT, all heavy duty Cummins Virtual College courses and have
qualified on ISM CM876 engines. This is a “hands-on” class. Students will perform a NOW overhaul in class.

20. ISX/QSX Midstop Liner Block Machining (2011-15Q)
This course will train the technician on machining procedures developed for the ISX/QSX Midstop Cylinder
Liner Counterbore Ledge. The technician will be required to properly measure and machine the counterbore
ledge in the ISX/QSX Engine Block.

21. High Pressure Common Rail Fuel Systems Service and Diagnostics
This course was developed to enhance the technician’s ability to understand and perform the necessary
procedures to effectively diagnose and service the latest fuel systems on the Cummins MidRange and Heavy
Duty Engines. This is a two day course covering proper service and diagnostic procedures on the Cummins
Common Rail Fuel Systems for the ISX, ISB/C&L engines. There will be classroom and hands on training
conducted by one of our fuel systems experts. The technician will use current troubleshooting tools and
procedures including the latest version of INSITE.
Cummins Marine Engine Training
1. Cummins Diesel Heavy Duty/Midrange Troubleshooting Course (38 & 39)
This course is designed to give the Marine Technician the classroom and hands on requirement in order to
receive qualification status on the B5.9, C8.3, 480CE, QSB 5.9, QSC5.9, QSL 8.9 & QSM11 engines. The
technician will work with INSITE, Data Link Adapters, and Electronic Control Modules. Marine application
requirements, sea trial, marine specific components, maintenance, operation and installation requirements will
be covered. Emphasis is placed on understanding the Air, Lube, Cooling, Fuel, and Electronic systems as it
applies to Marine engines

2. Marine QSK19 CM850 MCRS Engine Qualification (2008- 02Q)
The Qualified Marine Technician will receive qualification status through hands-on live engine training and
written testing. Marine application requirements, sea trial, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting
techniques will be taught using a QSK19 MCRS marine engine with C Command Elite and Elite Plus controls.

3. Marine QSB6.7 and SmartCraft 2.5 (2011-13Q)
The Marine QSB 6.7 has been developed to prepare our technicians to both understand and repair the new
QSB 6.7 marine diesel engine. Also covered will be the SmartCraft 2.5. This course has been developed to
prepare our technicians to both understand and repair the new SmartCraft vessel control system. Covered in
the course will be, history of the SmartCraft protocol and the place SmartCraft 2.5 will assume in the
SmartCraft hierarchies, proper CAN bus configuration in relation to the different junction boxes and CAN
termination protocol. We will discuss the new hardware components: five way connector, CCM10, extension
harnesses, and VIP panel loopback caps. We will utilize the different service tools such as G-3, INSITE, wire
schematics, QSOL, and the CMD web site to perform the different testing and troubleshooting procedures.

Cummins Power Generation
1. Fundamentals of RV & CM
The Fundamentals of RV and Commercial Mobile course covers basic RV and Commercial Mobile engine theory,
alternator theory, controls theory, installation procedures, maintenance procedures focusing on generator set
performance, and general troubleshooting. All RV and Commercial Mobile product will be covered, excluding
specially configured products.

2. Fundamentals of Engines
The primary purpose of this course is to teach CPG technicians the basic troubleshooting principles of engines and
then to apply those principles practically to the types of power-generating equipment that Cummins manufactures.

3. Fundamentals of AC Generators
An application of the theory of AC generator operation to hands-on troubleshooting and servicing. This course covers
a wide range of basic service, maintenance, and troubleshooting topics which apply to the range of AC Generator
lines manufactured by Cummins.

4. Fundamentals of Automatic Transfer Switches
Fundamentals course which introduces the service technician to the CPF Automatic Transfer Switches. This course
will cover the basics of ATS controls, mechanisms, safety, common major electrical components and basic theory of
operation. Product specific, hands-on course covering the OT 40-1200A mechanism. This course will cover the
hardware, wiring sequence of operation, service procedures, and troubleshooting of the OT 40-1200A mechanism.

5. Fundamentals of PowerCommand Controls
Fundamentals of PowerCommand Controls introduces the participants to Cummins commercial generator set
PowerCommand Controls. This course will cover the basic subsystems, controls hardware, safety, sequence of
operation, configuration, and troubleshooting of the PCCs.

6. Fundamentals of Network Communication I
Fundamentals of Network Communication I introduces the participants to the basics of network communications
including PCCNet, Modbus, and the PCC 500/550 remote monitoring system

7. Fundamentals of Network Communication II
Fundamentals of Network Communication II introduces the participants to the network communication with
FT10, Lonmaker and Ethernet.

8. Inpower
The course teaches participants how to use InPower troubleshoot supported devices. The course teaches how to
download new software to control, change parameter, pull fault history, monitor data over a period of time, create strip
charts which can be emailed to your DFSE or factory representative for analysis.

9. Power Command 1.X and 2.X Controls (2008-08 and 13Q)
The technician will learn the features of the PowerCommand Control 1302 and 2300. This course also includes a
complete sequence of operation of all of the modes in these PowerCommand Controls, operating systems,
troubleshooting practice and installation procedures for generator sets with the PowerCommand Controls 1302 and
2300. Troubleshooting of these controls expands the knowledge of InPower Service Tool software brought to the class
by the participants.
Once the students have successfully completed all of the required exercises, they will participate in a written and
hands-on qualification assessment.

10. Power Command 3.3 Controls (2013-11Q)
This course covers PowerCommand Control 3300 installation, operation, adjustment, and troubleshooting. We will
also cover the menu systems, Voltage Regulator and Governor adjustments of the PowerCommand Control 3300.
The technicians will learn where the generator set control hardware is located and the function of each module in the
control. Troubleshooting of this control expands the knowledge of InPower Service Tool software brought to the class
by the participants. Once the students have successfully completed all of the required exercises they will participate
in a written and hands-on qualification assessment. Covers Paralleling Basics

This course covers PowerCommand Control 3200 &3201 installation, operation, adjustment, and troubleshooting. We
will also review the menu systems, Voltage Regulator and Governor adjustments of the PowerCommand Control 3200
& 3201 The technicians will learn where the generator set control hardware is located and the function of each module
in the control. Troubleshooting of this control expands the knowledge of InPower Service Tool software brought to the
class by the participants. Once the students have successfully completed all of the required exercises they will

12. Power Command 2100/ 2100 CAN Controls (2001-28Q)
The technician will learn the features of the PowerCommand Control 2100 CAN. This course also includes a
complete sequence of operation of all of the modes in the PowerCommand Control 2100 operating systems,

addition, this class will cover modifications to the PCC 2100 control resulting from the addition of the CAN data Link
to communicate on engine ECM's. Troubleshooting of this control expands the knowledge of InPower Service Tool
software brought to the class by the participants.
Once the students have successfully completed all of the required exercises, they will participate in a written and
hands-on qualification assessment.

This course concentrates on installation, adjustment, service and troubleshooting of OTPC and BTPC transfer
switches. Through a combination of classroom instruction and practical application training experiences, technicians
learn to use electrical diagrams, manuals and the InPower program to troubleshoot and repair the OTPC transfer
switch. Technicians must have a thorough knowledge of AC and DC electrical theory. This class concludes with
written and practical application qualification testing.

14. PowerRent GenSets (2002-32Q)
This course is designed to enable field personnel to install, operate, maintain and repair Cummins PowerGeneration
prime and standby Power Rent generator sets.
The procedures to change voltage, checkout engine and fluid levels, check batteries, and inspect shutdowns and
other electromechanical devices will be discussed. The distribution panel, wiring diagrams, breakers, safety, and
troubleshooting considerations unique to the Power Rent package will be covered.
This course will also include the paralleling of rental gensets. The paralleling connections for each genset will be
considered as well as the interface connections between the two or more gensets that are connected in parallel.
Additional circuit breakers necessary for paralleling configuration will be discussed.

15. OHPC and CHPC Transfer Switches (2001-29Q)
This course is designed to introduce technicians to the new Open Transition and Closed Transition PowerCommand
transfer switches and the new transfer switch mechanism. The participants will learn where the transfer switch
hardware is located and the function of each module in the control. The control portion of the course will be expanded
from the OTPC transfer switch course. The course will include reviewing the procedures for removal, rebuilding and
replacement of the OHPC/CHPC mechanism. After successfully completing the transfer switch control portion of the
course, participants will continue with removing, rebuilding and replacing the OHPC/CHPC transfer switch mechanism.
Once the participants have successfully completed all of the required exercises, they will participate in a written and
hands-on qualification assessment.

This course will cover the RS12000 home standby system including the generator, and transfer switch. Students will
learn how to install repair and maintain the system. There will be classroom and practical exercises on a running
system in our shop. At the end of this course students will take a written and practical assessment.

17. New Source Performance Standards. NSPS (2009-43Q)
This course covers the New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) as they relate to GenSet performance and
emissions. Covered in this course will be a review of Gaseous Fuel Systems including, Gaseous Fuels, Fuel System
Layout, Fuel System Components, and Fuel System sizing. Also covered will be proper use of testing equipment
and diagnostic procedures.

18. CMSD 20KW & Commercial Mobile Hydraulic/PTO (2009-42Q & 2007-23Q)
This course covers repair and diagnostic functions for the CMSD 20kW (HDKAW) GenSet. Training will
highlight the 4 pole bushless generator, electronic governor systems, new digital control systems, and
the new compact blower style cooling system. This course also covers repair and diagnostic functions for the
Commercial Mobile Hydraulic/ PTO Qualification (HG & YD). This class concludes with written and practical
application qualification testing.

19. Digital Master Control (DMC) 1500 (2011-25Q)
This course covers installation, operation and troubleshooting DMC1500 Digital Paralleling System. Topics for this
course include: Fundamentals of paralleling in Isolated Bus and Infinite Bus applications. Sequence of operation in
Automatic, Semi-automatic and Manual paralleling modes. Digital Master Control components, operation,
adjustments and troubleshooting, DMC architecture, set up, HMI screens and schematics. Troubleshooting and
diagnostic methods are emphasized. Familiarization with the MCM 3320 or DMC 1000 is required for this course.

14. Allison DOC Training
This program provides an understanding of the operations, specific electronic input/output functions and
circuitry, mandatory vehicle interface connections, system diagnostics/troubleshooting, and reprogramming
selected parameters. Specifics of the Allison DOCTM include navigating through the tool's computer screens;
using the demo mode, graphics monitor, and strip chart options; and accessing specific troubleshooting
manual pages within the tool. Proof of certification must be submitted to Noregon to receive authorization to
activate the reprogramming function of the Allison DOCTM.

Tao Guan - 14 years with Cummins Inc.
Ms Guan has held engineering positions in Cummins Light Duty Diesel Engineering, Heavy Duty Engineering, and
Cummins Power Generation. Her specialty is with engine fuel system, lube and cooling system, and engine integration
with genset. She joined Cummins Pacific in 2014 as training manager.
Bob Garcia – 38 years of experience in the Midrange, Heavy Duty and Alternative fuel Engines fields.
Mr. Garcia has been a journeyman technician, shop leadman, assistant shop foreman, shop foreman, owned his own
repair business, shop supervisor, high horsepower field service technician, and he is currently an Instructor in our
southern training center.
Rene Azares - 38 years of experience in the Trucking Industry / 14 years with Cummins.
Mr Azares has been a Technician and Shop Foreman. He is well versed in Troubleshooting and all phases of engine
repairs. He was a Field Service Technician for 10 years and several years as a Technical Support Engineer. He is
currently a Distributor Field Service Engineer for High Horsepower, Heavy Duty, Mid Range, and Light Duty Engines
as well as an Instructor.
Ron Pasquetti - 31years experience in the Heavy Duty Engine and Allison Transmission fields.
Mr. Pasquetti has been a technician and shop foreman. In addition he has previously held the Customer Support and
Dealer Development Manager position for Allison Transmission Products. He is currently our Technical Support
Manager and Instructor for Allison West.
Michael Jones - 34 years of experience in the power generation field.
Mr. Jones has held positions as a power generation field technician, service manager. He has held the position as a
distributor field service engineer for power generation for the past 10 years.
Mike Kievit has worked for Cummins for 10 years, and has been in the diesel engine industry for over 32 years. His
current position is the Marine Distributor Field Service Engineer, with his specialty being in service, repair, and
installation of marine diesel propulsion systems.
William Ong - Has been a part of Cummins Pacific as Natural Gas DFSE. He has over 10 years working with heavy
manufacturing equipment as well as two years working with Cummins Natural Gas engines. He currently provides
technical support for the Natural Gas products for Southern California. He will also serve as Natural Gas instructor for
Cummins Pacific for 2014.
Charles King – 9 years experience in the Midrange, Heavy Duty Engine fields.
Mr. King has been a technician, shop foreman, and he is currently an Instructor in our northern training center. Mr.
King holds an associate degree in Diesel/Industrial Technology.
Lisa Dulgar - 12 years of experience with Cummins Pacific. Ms. Dulgar started off working in the Customer Service
Center as the receptionist. She then moved on to work as our Cleaire coordinator before taking on the role as Corporate
Receptionist and as a credit support administrator in our accounting department. Ms Dulgar currently is our Training
Center Coordinator for our northern and southern training centers.
