President’s Message
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Political action and change
was a hot topic of discussion
at the recent CUPE BC
convention in Vancouver. This
week we have seen firsthand
in the news what action
and change can look like –
with the election of Rachel
Notley and a majority NDP
government sweeping into
power in Alberta after 44
years of conservative rule
in that province.
Patti Price, Ian Reade, Eileen Penney, Emmet
Tohill, Kevin Berg-Iverson, Jasbir Singh, John
Louangxay at CUPE BC Convention in May
The labour movement in BC and across Canada is under attack from
provincial and federal political leaders who would like nothing better
than to tear us down and extinguish our voices. We have to be
proactive and support progressive candidates in local, provincial and
federal elections in order to keep our union strong.
The upcoming federal election on October 19, 2015 is a chance
for all our voices to be heard. I encourage each and every one of
you to become educated and engaged in what is going on in your
communities. Go to town hall meetings, talk with your candidates,
help out with a local campaign and talk with your fellow members
on this issue.
If we stand together with one voice we can make a difference.
In solidarity,
Patti Price
President, CUPE Local 1091

Family Barbecue
Saturday, May 30
11:30 am to 2:30 pm
at Cougar Canyon
11664 Lyon Rd.
A message from your Social Committee:
Food will be served at 11:30am precisely so you don’t
want to arrive late for this event. This is a family BBQ
so no alcohol will be served. We invite you to bring
your spouse, your kids, your grandkids, etc. You don’t
need to bring anything, come as you are. There will be
tables and chairs all set up.
If it rains on that day, the party will be moved to
the multi-purpose room or gym. Parking spaces are
available at both Cougar Canyon and Seaquam. We’ll
be serving beef burgers, chicken burgers, veggie
burgers, samosas, hot dogs, salads, fruit & veggie
platters.
We even have a bouncy castle for the little ones to
jump around on. We hope to see all of you there!
Spotted at CUPE BC Convention:
One of seven 1091 Delegates attending the 52nd
Annual CUPE BC Covention, Emmet Tohill helped
out at the merchandising table on May 1, 2015.
