Over the past five years nearly 15,000 volunteer hours have been
contributed by groups from corporations, churches, and civic and social
organizations in support of Family Service. Volunteers have painted
murals for children’s counseling rooms, landscaped our facilities to
create a more inviting environment, distributed school uniforms to
children in need, wrapped gifts for our adopt a family program, sorted
and stocked our baby pantry, and many other tasks. They can work with
groups of 15 to over 400. Montoya handles the volunteer services.

The Volunteer Program welcomes civic organizations, schools, clubs,
Boy and Girl Scout troops and interested citizens, who wish to help
clean, maintain and upgrade City parks. We also assist corporations and
businesses looking for employee service projects and have done
numerous projects with organizations bringing large conventions to San
Antonio.
You provide the volunteers and the elbow grease. We'll provide the
materials. Volunteer services works with each group to select an
appropriate work site, design the project to fit the number of volunteers,
furnish the tools and supplies and provide technical support during the
service project. The scope of work varies and any size or age group can
be accommodated. Tasks include anything that can be accomplished in
a park such as painting, trash pick up, tree/brush trimming, lake
shoreline cleaning, spreading bark mulch or a labor intensive task that
may be unique to a particular site.

The San Antonio Area Chapter helps people in emergencies every day.
Volunteers are involved in every aspect of the Red Cross mission and
constitute 96 percent of our workforce! Our vital work is made possible
by people just like you who want to make a difference in the community.
As a volunteer at the San Antonio Area Chapter, you could:
• Provide a family displaced by a house fire in the middle of the night
with a safe place to sleep
• Set up a shelter and serve meals to disaster victims
• Staff our 24-hour emergency call center and deliver urgent
messages to military members around the world
• Support our Service to the Armed Forces at Wilford Hall Medical
Center or Brooke Army Medical Center
• Teach people how to save lives with first aid and CPR training,
babysitter’s training, and lifeguard training
• Help in our office to keep our daily business running smoothly
• And more!
Whether you want to volunteer a few hours a month, once a year, or on
an ongoing basis, the Red Cross needs your help!
We have up to 120 residents at any given time and are always in need
of a wide variety of donations. Just think of all the things you need in
your own family and add 120 children to the equation.
RMYA also accepts contributions of real estate, stock, and bonds. The
Thrift Shop accepts "gently used" furniture, clothing, and other items.

Soldiers' Angels relies on donations of items (donations in kind) to
sustain three of our most important projects: Care packages, Vet Packs,
and First Response (for the wounded) Backpacks. Care packages are
directed to units who are deployed in more remote locations and soldiers
who are waiting to be adopted by individual Angels. Vet Packs are part
of the VA Support Team's activities, and the First Response Backpacks
go to American combat hospitals around the world.

We rely on volunteers to inspect, sort, shelve, and distribute donated
food. When you donate your time to the San Antonio Food Bank, you
become a partner in the fight against hunger. Whether you are available
on weekdays, evenings, or weekends, you can ensure that a single mom
can feed her child, that a child can enjoy a nutritious meal, or that a
senior citizen is able to receive a box of nutritious groceries. Just one
morning or afternoon can make a difference to a family or individual in
need. We work with businesses, civic organizations and individuals to
design a fun and rewarding volunteer experience. Join other people who
are becoming hunger fighters in our community - corporate, church and
school groups, families, senior citizens, students, teenagers, parents - all
helping us touch the lives of hundreds of thousands of people each
month who truly need our help.
