Go Games Blitzes 2015
GAA Policy on Go Games
Friday Night Games start at 6.45pm
Saturday Morning Games start at 10.30am
( teams to arrive 15 minutes before games start)
Host club responsibilities:
FIRST NAMED Team in bold will host blitz
Setting of pitches i.e. goals, flags, grass cut & training poles can also be used for goalposts
Organise the dressing rooms
Coordinate games, organise fixtures programme, (appoint young whistlers €10 Per Blitz)
All Coaches Must wear the GAA Respect Bibs at each Blitz
(Clubs to organise their own)
Have bibs on standby in case of clash of Jerseys with visiting teams.
Provide refreshments to visiting players – Fruit Drink/Crisps/Bars or Fruit Parents tea, coffee
Under 8 and 10 pitches at separate ends of the field (4 pitches on 1 full size pitch)
Host clubs and visiting clubs must make contact on the Wednesday before all blitzes.
Rules are SET and are there to be implemented by all Clubs/Referees
(As per attachment)
After games Players line up and shake hands with the opposition, mentors and referees
For under 8 Hurling Blitzes the Quick Touch Sliotar must be used
• Coaches to organise and grade their own teams of mixed ability before a blitz if
entering more than 1 team
• All coaches must be honest in their appraisal of players no loading of teams,
players/teams must be evenly balanced on ability for fun, sportmanship & Enjoyment
• Team size to be agreed between competing clubs min 6 & max 8 at U/8 and min 8 &
max 10 at U/10
Clubs please make sure that all your coaches/mentors coach from the sideline during
games –
NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD OR HALF WAY IN ON THE FIELD. THIS
HAS A MAJOR EFFECT ON THE CONTROL + ABILITY + COMPETIVENESS OF
PLAYERS
Coaches please make sure that PLAYERS PLAY FREELY and COACHES COACH
FROM THE SIDELINE
. Photocopy rules for players and parents to generate a complete understanding of the
games
• Any club found to have used an ineligible player or breaks any of these Go Games rules
will be immediately barred from participating in the remainder of the Go Games
Programme
The emphasis should be on FUN and SKILL DEVELOPMENT and
not on winning at all costs
Lead coaches must book their home venue and ensure there is no clash of
fixtures with Camogie, Ladies Football, Club Coaching or County Board
Games
All players, mentors and supporters are expected to show respect for the
referee. Failure to do this will result in the referee reporting the persons
involved and these people along with Club Officers will be called before the
disciplinary committee of Coaching & Games.
Clubs should adopt a standardised approach to Go Games based on these set of rules to
ensure uniformity among clubs. However, the central philosophy of Go Games is - to
promote full participation and fair play while catering for the developmental needs of the
participants.
• Games should be played in line with the GAA Respect Initiative
Clubs to erect a Give Respect, Get respect sign in their club grounds
It is Suggested that a Hooter is used to Start & Finish all games on time
For under 8/`10 Blitzes please make sure there is a line of cones accross the middle of
the pitch for two Zones
It would also be very important that parents/spectators are in a designated area for the
duration of all games - Show approval for effort, not just success
Players must play in their own age Group
If you need an extra team on the day - all clubs to provide players to form a new team if they have extra
players - this makes sure no team is waiting
When blitzes are cancelled due to bad weather they must be refixed within 2/3 days of the original
fixture - this is the host clubs responsibility
There will be no Go Games Medals provided at the end of the year.(Clubs to get their own)
All Clubs must arrive on time! To assist fixtures programme for host clubs

Mouthguards and the GAA - Information for Clubs, Players and Parents
Following the GAA’s Annual Congress in April 2012 a new rule was enacted that made it
mandatory to use a mouthguard in all Gaelic football matches and training sessions from
January 1st 2013 (for all age grades up to and including minor) Players will not be covered
under the player injury scheme if they are not wearing a mouthguard.
COMPLYING WITH THE NEW RULE
The GAA recognise that Clubs may be worried about compliance with the new
rules and specifically what will happen if a player forgets or does not have a
mouthguard on the day of a game. The suggestion in this context is that each
Club should purchase a supply of the Stock or Boil and Bite mouthguards for use
in such situations.
