Follow the directions from the park rangers. VERY IMPORTANT – you will receive a race coupon with your packet and you will need to hand the gate attendant at the park this coupon for free admission. This year the coupon will include a park survey and please fill this out before race morning and hand to the park attendant at the gate. This will help the park for our future events All non-athlete adults will need to pay the standard $7 for the Texas State Parks fee unless you have a yearly permit. Kids under 12 are Free!! Know Your Race Courses • It is the responsibility of each competitor to know the courses • Bike Course is open to traffic but will have local police to direct traffic and the roads have a large shoulder to ride on • On the bike, remember to pass only on the left and ride to the right • Do not follow the bike in front of you and pay attention to the course signs as they could be doing another distance. • You may not remove your bike from transition until race officials determine it is safe for vehicles to leave the park. • Run course is on the park trails and roads and is mostly under the canopy of trees. Please make sure to keep hydrated and run on the left side of the trail. • Dallas Athletes Racing will take every precaution to ensure the course is marked and turn marshals are present. • Race Numbers will be provided in your packet, a bike number to be attached with twist ties and goes on the top tube of the bike, a helmet number to be placed on the front of your helmet and a running bib to be worn during your run on the front. Race Day Weather • The race will be held rain or shine. Be prepared for all weather conditions. Please note Race officials may cancel, delay or change the race to a non-scored event in case of extreme weather or other conditions that may affect the safety and health of the participants. In the event of cancellation, no refunds will be issued. Restrooms • Port-o-lets will be available near the transition area. There is an indoor restrooms facility and locker rooms also near transition. Texasman Transition Area (Opens 5:45) Notes: Transition and body marking will be open at 5:45 am and closes at 6:45 am. Place bike and other transition items in the appropriate spot according to the number on the end of the racks and race distance. Swim Waves Our open water/lake swim events the race will be started in a series of wave starts. The race will start with the X-50 Distance, then the Olympic and finally the Sprint distance. Each of the distances will have a series of category waves by swim cap color. For safety you must wear your colored swim cap. Please make sure to start in your assigned wave or you could be disqualified. The layout of the swim course can be seen on the next page. Below is the order of the swim waves/starts with the first one starting at 7:00am. X-50 Swim Waves Wave 1 – Male ( 39 & Under ) and all Relays DARK RED Swim Cap Wave 2 – Male ( 40 & Over ) DARK ORANGE Swim Cap Wave 3 – Female (All Females) DARK GREEN Swim Cap Olympic Swim Waves Wave 4 – Male ( 39 & Under ) BRIGHT ORANGE Swim Cap Wave 5 – Male ( 40 & Over ) PURPLE Swim Cap Wave 6 – Female ( All Females ) LT YELLOW swim cap Sprint Swim Waves Wave 7 – Male ( 39 & Under ) LT BLUE Swim Cap Wave 8 – Male ( 40 & Over ) LIME GREEN Swim Cap Wave 9 – Female ( All Females ) PINK Swim Cap Texasman Swim X-50 and Olympic Course (1 Mile) Sprint Course (500 yds) Beach Start Notes: The Swim will start in waves provided in this guide and at packet pickup. If you are feeling nervous and choose not to swim, you must turn in your timing chip to the nearest volunteer or Dallas Athletes Crew member. We will have kayaks, boats, and canoes on the swim course. USAT rules allow you to rest at any of these kayaks briefly if you need to. If you are having any type of trouble and need to stop, please do not leave the kayak as they will call for assistance and the park officials will come get you to take you back to the beach. The water temperature will be measured the week of the race to make sure it is wet suit legal. X-50 / Olympic will use same course of 1 mile. Athletes will swim out to the Muscle Milk buoy for the turns. There will be other orange buoys to help guide you along the course. Sprint athletes will swim to the first set of lime/green buoys turn right and then over to the next lime/green buoy to make final right turn to the beach We are proud to once again be the official photography provider of all Dallas Athletes Racing Triathlons. X-50 Bike and Run Courses Texasman Bike Course – X-50 Notes: The X-50 Bike course exits the park and turns right on FM 3002 and continues straight where FM 3002 becomes FM 372. Continue on FM 372 until the turnaround. You will then head back and take a right (Heading West) on FM 922 until the turnaround. Proceed back to FM 372 and turn right and go back to the park entrance. You will turn into the park and the turnaround just before the gate entrance to start your second loop. (X-50 is a TWO (2) loop Course) Loop 2 of the X-50 course will have ONE water bottle hand off at approximately the 20 mile mark (water only) Texasman X-50 Run Map Notes: The X-50 run is TWO (2) loops for a total of 9 Miles Make sure to run on the left of the road/trail. There will be 9 opportunities for hydration on the course and at the turnaround on the park road will have pretzels, salt tablets and cola. The X-50 run course will close at 12 noon. Olympic Bike and Run Courses Texasman Bike Course – Olympic Notes: The Olympic bike course will be turning right on HWY 922 going East. You will then turnaround and return to FM 372. Go Right at FM 372 until the turnaround and return back to the entrance of the park. Texasman Olympic Run Map Notes: The Olympic course is a TWO (2) loop course for a total of 6.2 miles. Make sure to run on the left of the road/trail. There will be 5 opportunities for hydration. Sprint Bike and Run Courses Texasman Bike Course – Sprint Notes: The sprint bike course is an out and back course. Stay on the RIGHT SIDE of the road and the shoulder if possible. The Sprint course is a 16.1 mile route. Texasman Sprint Run Map Notes: The Olympic course is a ONE (1) loop course for a total of 3.1 miles. Make sure to run on the left of the road/trail. There will be 3 opportunities for hydration. USAT Most Common Violated Rules 1. Membership/Permit Requirements. All participants in sanctioned USAT events must be USAT members and present a valid annual membership card or purchase a USAT single event permit. 2. Age Group Competition: All age group athletes must compete in the age group corresponding to your age on December 31. Weight Class Division: If offered, Clydesdale (men) minimum weight is 220 pounds and Athena (women) is165 pounds. Participants are not eligible to compete in both a weight class and an age group at the same event. 3. Helmets: Only helmets approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) may be used in USAT sanctioned events. Helmets must be worn at all times while on your bike. This means before, during, and after the event. Penalty: Disqualification 4. Chin Straps: Chin straps must be buckled at all times when on a bicycle. DO NOT unbuckle your chin strap unless you are off your bicycle. Penalty: Disqualification on the course; Variable time penalty in transition area only. 5. Outside Assistance: No assistance other than that offered by race and medical officials may be used. Triathlons are individual tests of fitness. Penalty: Variable time penalty 6. Abandonment: All personal equipment and belongings taken out onto the course must stay on the athlete the entire time. No garbage, clothing, etc. shall be thrown on the course. Penalty: Variable time penalty 7. Transition Area: All equipment must be placed in the properly designated and individually assigned bike corral. The wheel of the bicycle must be down on the side of the assigned space. All participants must return their bicycles to an upright position in their designated bicycle corral. No person shall interfere with another participant’s equipment or impede the progress of another participant. All bar ends must be solidly plugged. No participant shall bring ANY glass containers into the transition area. Penalty: Variable time penalty 8. Drafting: Drafting--keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in front. If you move into the zone, you must pass within 15 seconds. Position--keep to the right hand side of the lane of travel unless passing. Blocking--riding on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass. Overtaken--once passed, you must immediately exit the draft zone from the rear, before attempting to pass again. Penalty: Variable time penalty 9. Entire Course: Participants must cover the prescribed course in its entirety. It is the participant’s responsibility to know the course. Traffic Laws: All participants must obey all traffic laws while on the cycling course unless otherwise specifically directed by a USA Triathlon official, race monitor or designee with actual authority. Penalty: Disqualification/Variable time (Referee's discretion) 10. Audio Devices: Headphones, headsets, walkmans, ipods, mp3 players, or personal audio devices, etc. are not to be carried or worn at any time during the race. Cyclists may carry a cell phone for emergencies stored in a tool bag and in the off position. Participants who use a phone must step off the course and make no forward progress while on the phone. The use of a phone while walking or running shall result in a penalty. No phone may be used or carried if the device is capable of playing music. Phones may not be mounted on the handlebars Penalty: Variable time penalty USAT Most Common Violated Rules (cont’d) 11. Race numbers: All athletes are required to wear race numbers at all times during the run. Numbers must face the front and be clearly visible at all times. Numbers may not be cut or folded or altered in any way. DO NOT transfer your number to any other athlete or take a number from an athlete that is not competing. Penalty: Variable time penalty for missing or altered number, Disqualification and one year suspension from membership in USAT for transferring a number without race director permission. 11. Wetsuits: Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited. 12. Bottom Contact and Resting. A participant may stand on the bottom or rest by holding an inanimate object such as a buoy, boat, rope or floating object. Excluding the bottom, a participant shall not use any inanimate object to gain forward progress. 13. Unsportsmanlike-Like Conduct: Foul, harsh, argumentative or abusive language or other unsportsmanlike conduct directed at race officials, USA Triathlon officials, volunteers, spectators or fellow athletes is forbidden.
