RAIN PREPARATION GUIDE We need to pray to the sun god and prepare for rain because there is a chance of rain on Saturday so we are gearing up and getting excited to dance in the rain! This is a rain or shine event so no matter what the weather decides to do we will be dancing down Broadway! We have prepared some things to prepare in case of rain. ● Protect your sound equipment! Make sure you have extra water proof tarps to put over speakers and wiring that is exposed to the outside. You can buy tarps at any hardware store or use heavy duty trash bags along with some duct tape to keep it down. Don’t forget to protect the cables by keeping them off the ground and under tarps or trash bags. ● Protect your electronics! Put your phones and any personal electronics in some kind of waterproof bag or container. You can also have some of your group members carry the electronics down the parade route walking (I mean dancing) with an umbrella. ● Please Be Patient. In the rain things can get be delayed and accidents can happen, so please allow more time to get where you need to go. Vehicles, be extra cautious of those around you, it will be slippery and crowded so better to be slow than rush to get where you need to go. ● Have fun!! There’s something really magical that happens when you can dance in the rain and when we’re not worried about anything getting ruined we can free ourselves to just be wet and dancing. But after we make sure everything is waterproofed. ● FLOATS : Floats must arrange protective tarps to protect DJ’s equipment. If you have ordered a float with sound through Dance Parade we will take care of the waterproofing. Just work about waterproofing yourself and bring umbrellas. AFTERPARTY: Everyone is welcome to join us at the after party with m usical stylings by DJ Jeannie Hopper , ( Liquid Sound Lounge / WBAI ) and acoustic flavorings by Liah Alonso Where: Nublu, 62 Avenue C (btw 4th & 5th St.), East Village Time: 8:00pm - midnight Tickets: $8 in advance/$15 at the door https://www.eventbrite.com/e/official-dance-parade-after-party-tickets-16714010054 SOCIAL MEDIA: Follow us at @DanceParadeNYC on Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr and ‘Dance Parade New York’ on Facebook. Individuals from Blocks A-C & E-G will line up on 21st Street between Park Ave and Broadway. 22nd Street is reserved for vehicles and floats. BLOCK “D” is an exception, In BLOCK D all Floats, buses and dancers will line up together. Only those involved in the actual construction and set-up of the float will be allowed on 22nd Street. AT FORMATION AREA: Individual Dancers and Dance Groups will be responsible for lining up in the correct order based on their Parade Order # on 21Street. The DANCER ORDER CAPTAINS will be helping th these groups and dancers line-up in the correct order and will have the parade order on hand for reference. There will be staff on both the dancer and vehicle streets to help you find your place in the line of march. Groups with vehicles will be assisted in the line up in the correct order based on their Parade Order # on 22Street. Keep in mind that some numbers might be skipped, not all groups have vehicles. The VEHICLE ORDER CAPTAIN helps place vehicles in the correct order once they arrive at the line-up area and will have the parade order on hand for reference. This will be a secure area--Only people with wristbands can enter. There is to be NO AMPLIFIED sound in the formation blocks, other than sound checks. nd The Parade will start when the PARADE START CAPTAIN signals for the first groups to cross 21 and Broadway. The captain guides the merging of groups and vehicles at the start of the parade and signals for the correct vehicles and dancers to enter the parade based on the official Parade Order. st ON THE PARADE ROUTE SPACERS: SPACERS are perhaps the most important of all Volunteer Staff; they keep the pace of the parade and are integral to your success on the route. Spacers will be interacting with dance groups closely as they maintain the distance between groups and the timing of the Parade. DANCING ON THE ROUTE: The crowd expects a show – let’s give them one! If you are unsure of what to do or feel uncomfortable improvising, create three or four repeatable rhythmic phrases that a group leader can begin and the rest of the group can pick up. Change the phrase every five blocks, or whenever the parade stops. You may also perform “routines” along the route. Stationary routines may ONLY be performed BEFORE you reach an intersection – please do not perform in the middle of a block or intersection. VEHICLES AND FLOATS: Dancers must remain on floats at all times. Spacers will assist with maintaining the safety of dancers on the ground. No items may be thrown off floats; please hand anything directly to spectators. NEW YORK DANCE POLICE: We also have volunteer NYDP (New York Dance Police) officers keeping the viewers of the Parade dancing and enthusiastic! NYDP will hand out tickets to viewers of the Parade who are not dancing. NYDP might also sentence viewers to mandatory free dance lessons at the DanceFest in Tompkins Square Park! NEW YORK DANCE POLICE: Our event is a favorite with the NY Police Department – let’s help to keep it that way! Your full cooperation with both the NYPD and parade staff is greatly appreciated. Please quickly and respectfully follow any directive they may have. In the event of an emergency, please notify the nearest NYPD officer or parade production team member. DANCE FEST The Parade will end at Tompkins Square Park, where the post-parade DanceFest will take place, complete with a DJ'ed dance party, a teaching area with dance classes, “Experience Dance” booths, site specific performances and dance performances on two stages. The performance times indicated below represent the final assignments per the curation committee. Groups are expected to check in with the stage manager 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time on stage. Please be aware that the schedule may fluctuate slightly due to unforeseen circumstances. Groups need to bring their music to the stage manager when they check in. We suggest both an mp3 accessible file (Ipod, mp3 player, flash drive, etc) as well as on a CD as a back-up. Remember, parades are spectacles – let’s give the audience a show! However, please remember that this is an all-inclusive, family-friendly event and we want to highlight ourselves and our love of dance in the most positive ways. If you are not wearing your costume to the parade consider how you will change into it. ● Weather contingencies: The forecast is Partly Cloudy and 67degrees. Wear sunscreen, head covering, towels to wipe that sweat off, plastic poncho, etc. ● Comfortable shoes. You will more than likely be on your feet dancing the entire day. Get ready! ● Water (and something to carry it in if you want your hands free). ● A banner to lead your group and/or your group’s promotional materials. Although you cannot display your items unless you sponsor an “Experience Dance” booth, you are welcome to hand out your literature along the route ● Something/someone to manage your group’s belongings (if they can’t be locked into a car or stored on a float) as you travel on the route ● The formation area will have two bathrooms and so will the park. ● Most of the businesses in the area open at 10AM. Please be respectful of their livelihoods by remaining in the formation areas. ● The parade is about celebrating diversity and inclusion, and experiencing discoveries as a community. We encourage you to share your work and message with others and take full advantage of the resources that so many talented and dedicated dancers bring together for one magical day! ● You can check out a video of a Group Coordinator’s meeting loaded with information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQoJt_4j3Nc#t=25 Visit us on the Web at www.danceparade.org Email: [email protected] HAPPY DANCING!!!
