First parallel session, 11.00 - 12.15
Track I: IP policies across Europe and beyond
Moderator: Ruth Herzog | Room: TBA
Speakers:
Devrim Göktepe-Hultén, Assistant Professor, Lund University, Sweden
Markus J. Goetzmann, Lawyer, CBH Lawyers, Germany
Researchers from academia are the hidden champions for innovation in Europe. If motivated,
they will be major drivers of innovation. However, there is still a high potential of inventions in
academia which are not being utilized. What do researchers really want – money or fame? How
are they motivated towards commercialization?
Moreover, the current environment for academic inventors is diverse, because there is no harmonized employees’ invention law in Europe. This session will look into the current trends and
some typical regulations in selected European countries and highlight important issues to be
considered for transnational collaborations and licensing.
Track II: One size doesn’t fit all: how different environments require different TTO models
Moderator: Paul van Dun | Room: TBA
Speakers:
Vincent Lamande, CEO, Ouest Valorisation SAS and former president Réseau Curie,
France
Linus Wiebe, Director of Innovation and CEO, Lund University Innovation System,
Sweden

Programme, day 2 cont.
“Copy pasting” is not the right thing to do in tech transfer. You can only deliver results if your office is modelled to your local situation: do you have sufficient volume to work with and to build
up expertise, how does the legal situation look like (who owns the inventions?), what is the local
culture, how can your operations be financed... Find out how tech transfer offices and operations are set up in quite different environments and take home what can be useful to yourself.
Track III: Providing innovation consultancy transnationally: what is it, why and how?
Moderator: Amanda Zeffman | Room: TBA
Speakers:
Tom Hockaday, Managing Director, Isis Innovation Ltd, United Kingdom
Ester Dal Poz, Professor Inova Unicamp, Brazil
Providing consultancy on innovation internationally is a growing function of well-established
commercialisation offices. Many well established Technology Transfer Offices are now working
in this way with academic and governmental organisations with less developed technology
transfer and commercialisation functions potentially building capacity in technology transfer,
globally (very much in line with the goals of the H2020 CBTT programme). This session will examine strategies and operational models for doing this. What are the challenges? What are the
overarching benefits of Technology Transfer Offices providing this? What funding streams are
there for such consultancy?
LUNCH, 12.15 - 13.45
Knowledge Stock Exchange, 13.45 - 15.15
The Knowledge Stock Exchange (KSE) was introduced during the ASTP-Proton Fall Conference
in Warsaw last year (2013). It is a 90-minute session divided into three tracks. These tracks are
further sub-divided into 6 15-minute mini-sessions. The tracks are:
The information corner
Face-to-face meetings: Schedule your 1-on-1 meetings to explore options for
collaboration or experience sharing
Initiative sharing: Discuss an initiative that you came up with for a problem that you
encountered and share with your international TT colleagues
During the KSE session, you can navigate through the different options and create your own
personal programme! Once you have registered as a participant, you will be invited to the KSE
website where you will be asked to add your profile, informed about all possible slots and make
your own personal planning.
BREAK, 15.15 - 15.45
ASTP-PROTON Annual Conference | 20-22 May 2015 | Istanbul, Turkey

Programme, day 2 cont.
Second parallel session, 15.45 - 17.00
Track I: How to use EU funding to expand the activities of your TTO
Moderator: Sara Matt-Leubner | Room: TBA
Speakers:
Spela Stres, Head of Unit, Center for Technology Transfer and Innovation (CTT),
JožefStefanInstitute,Slovenia
Karen Laigaard, TTO Director, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
Within the last 10-15 years, most universities in Europe have established Technology Transfer
Centres and started the typical TT activities like patenting, licencing and spin out formation.
However, there is so much more about TT, which one could do, if only the resources would be
there. So the idea of this session is to learn more about funding opportunities, which enable
TTOs to expand their activities and thus to become an important player in their regional innovation landscape.
Track II: The evolving role of IP in China - barrier or catalyst for technology transfer?
Moderator: Marta Catarino | Room: TBA
Speakers:
Dongmin Chen, Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship of Beijing
University
In this session, an overview of how IP protection and management has been evolving in China,
including the latest developments announced by the Chinese Patent Office (SIPO) and how it
affects technology transfer will be the starting point to a lively discussion with the audience.
What are the current experiences, future challenges and opportunities in technology transfer
both from the perspective of European Tech Transfer offices licensing to Chinese companies
and Chinese universities doing business in Europe? Join us and share your experiences.
Track III: Cross-cultural awareness in global technology transfer
Moderator: TBA | Room: TBA
Speakers:
Jana Hollá, Cross-cultural Consultant, Facilitator & Trainer, Egypt
Michaela Germinario, IP Sales Manager worldwide, TuTech Innovation GmbH, Germany
Inter- or cross-cultural issues do play a role in technology transfer being a global business.
This session introduces the major pitfalls when negotiating a deal with a partner from a different
culture. Specific business cases e.g. from European consortia will be presented to highlight
cultural differences and get some practical insight on how to deal with them. The session will
look at these issues from a psychological and business point of view.

Track I: Spin-outs going global
Moderator: TBA | Room: TBA
Speakers:
Anders Aune, Key Account Manager, NTNU TTO AS
Magnus von Knebel-Döberitz, Founder of MTM laboratories, Heidelberg
It is hard enough to create university spin-outs. It is even harder to create spin-outs with a true
international potential. In this session, we will hear the stories of two very different spin-outs,
one German and one Norwegian, who have both managed to take their businesses to an international level. Ganymed Pharmaceuticals AG is a spin-out from the Universities of Mainz and
Zurich. The company develops highly selective Ideal Monoclonal Antibodies for the treatment
of cancer. Kahout is a spin-out from the Norwegian University of Science & Technology (NTNU)
and is a game-based learning platform aimed at schools, universities and businesses. It would
be hard to find two more different companies in terms of spin-out route, challenges, markets
and customers. Join us to hear these two extraordinary stories of spin-outs going global.
Track II: Venture Funds established by universities
Moderator: Karen Laigaard | Room: TBA
Speakers:
Paul Van Dun, General Manager, KU Leuven R&D, Belgium
Tom Hockaday, Managing Director, Isis Innovation Ltd, United Kingdom
This session will present cases of two universities who have established their own venture
funds. Is this a sensible way to combine the world of research and the world of profit and to
support and complement existing technology transfer activities. Two universities will give us

insights into the background and context, the process, structures, collaboration between the
funds and the rest of the university infrastructure, advantages and disadvantages for the involved parties.
Track III: Working with TTOs and the Industry Perspective
Moderator: TBA | Room: TBA
Speakers:
Andrea Cantone, Business Developer, Audio Analytic, United Kingdom
Additional speaker, TBA
Industry and TTOs of universities/public research organisations (PROs) choose to work together
in a number of different ways (for example, through collaborations, licensing or consultancy).
Do universities and PROs’ TTOs really understand the needs and culture of industry when it
comes to agreeing suitable terms and building strong relationships? What issues should TTOs
be aware of when working with industry? What does industry want to see from TTOs in order to
make their interactions more effective. This session will provide an industry perspective.
LUNCH, 12.15 - 13.15
Fourth parallel session, 13.15 - 14.30
Track I: Challenges of supporting SMEs
Moderator: TBA | Room: TBA
Track II: Standardisation, professionalisation and recognition of the knowledge transfer
profession
Moderator: Steven Tan | Room: TBA
Speaker:
Jane Muir, President, AUTM
For many years, there was no such thing like a standardised technology transfer education- one
simply had to figure out on, who offers education and training on relevant subjects and put
together his own curriculum. But as technology transfer transformed into a profession the relevance of standardisation became evident. In this session we want to discuss this relevance, the
power of recognition, the various approaches and elucidate the options for the ones interested
in getting a professional education.

Track III: Getting an expert view on your invention from experts abroad
Moderator: Sara Matt-Leubner | Room: TBA
Speaker:
Marta Catarino, Director TTO, TecMinho, University of Minho, Portugal
and Vice President, ASTP-Proton
Mike Johnson, Divisional Director, MRC Technology, United Kindom
One of the most challenging tasks in technology transfer is the evaluation of early stage invention disclosures. Since most TTOs cannot afford to have a specialist for every field, There are
several good reasons to use external advice in the evaluation procedure from time to time. First
of all, most TTOs cannot afford to have a specialist in every field. Secondly, getting an expert
opinion of colleagues from industry can help a lot to get a more realistic view on the new cases.
Finally, many TTOs do not have the resources to cope with all the invention disclosures on their
own.
In this session we will hear about the experience of both sides: the TTO hiring external advice
and the TTO helping others by providing advice.
