1. What is Super Summer Academy?
This program is an enrichment program to provide students with an opportunity to combat summer learning
loss. We receive funding for this program through the Wallace Foundation, with the intent to serve rising 2nd-5th
grade students that attend a Title 1 schools.
2. Where will Super Summer Academy be held?
6 sites: Woodland Acres, Oceanway, Rutledge Pearson, Martin L. King, Gregory Drive, and Reynolds Lane
3. Is this program for summer school / grade recovery?
No this program is not related to grade recovery and does not qualify for elementary promotion.
4. How does this program differ from summer school?
The Super Summer Academy offers both academic and enrichment activities. The academics while meeting
state standards are not a remediation curriculum and used to offer a multidisciplinary approach to learning.
Enrichment activities are aligned to a theme and project based learning.
5. Is there an attendance policy?
We encourage regular attendance. If your student does not show up within the first 3 days of the program, they
will lose their seat to a child on the waiting list.
6. How will my child get to and from the program?
Transportation is provided to and from the program within the host site feeder pattern. Information will be
forthcoming regarding bus routes.
7. How do I register my child for Super Summer Academy?
Your student will receive and invitation letter from their school. Also, applications are available on our website
www.duvalschools.org or at the each host site (Woodland Acres, Oceanway, Rutledge Pearson, Martin L. King,
Gregory Drive, and Reynolds Lane).
8. Will my child be automatically accepted when I apply?
No, students will be chosen via lottery system. All students who are rising 2nd-5th grades are encouraged to
apply. All applications will need to be completed by April 24th.
9. How will I know if my child has been accepted into the program?
You will receive a notification from the school during the week of May 8th.
10. If my child does not get into the program, do I have other options?
Our district also has fee based summer camps as does the City of Jacksonville. This information will be provided
to you, if your student is not accepted. This information can be found on the DCPS website as well as the City of
Jacksonville’s website.
11. How long is the Super Summer Academy?
Super Summer Academy begins Monday June 22 – Friday July 31th. There is no program on Friday July 3rd.
12. What are the times for the program?
Monday through Friday 8:00AM and dismissal will at 4:00 p.m.. If you provide transportation for your student,
please be aware that students are not allowed on campus before 8:00AM.
13. Is there a cost to the program?
No, this program is completely free.
14. Is there a dress code for the program?
Dress code is aligned to the Code of Student Conduct.
15. Is breakfast and lunch provided?
Yes the district provides both breakfast and lunch, along with a snack on a daily basis.
16. Who can attend the program?
Students currently in 1st – 4th grade in Title 1 schools are the only students allowed to attend the program. If you
have a 3rd grader who does not pass the Florida State Assessment by state law must attend summer recovery
and will not be allowed to attend Super Summer Academy.
17. What about my other children (siblings)?
The lottery system does not account for siblings in order to protect the integrity of the selection process.
18. When will I know if my child is called off the waiting list?
If an opening becomes available the host school will call you to notify you.
19. Does my child need to bring anything?
Nothing but a great attitude. The host school may ask the students to bring particular items for a special event.
