Thought For Today “The Holy Spirit Is Our Ever - Present Teacher.” 1550 S W W White Road San Antonio, TX 78220 Church: (210) 337-2044 Fax: (210) 337-2106 E-Mail: [email protected] Web Page Address: www.dellcrestchurchofchrist.org Exhortation From The Pen of Alphonso Gates, Part 1 Every member is important and every member is needed. The Elders and Deacons know that every member is needed and wants to use their talents and gifts to the greatest degree that they can. It is the responsibility of every member to bear fruit. We have to make sure that every member is engaged. For too long, we have let the members take the communion, sing a song, leave the building, and think that they have worshipped God—and that’s not so. I want to make sure that everybody greets everybody, especially those that are visitors. We want to make sure that everyone is welcomed and the proper courtesy extended to them. This includes non-black members as well. We don’t want to get stuck with being a black-only congregation. We must be sure to find ways to reach all of our brothers and sisters of all nationalities. This is what God would want. In addition, we have to make sure we reach out to non-members. We have to make sure that they are a part of the Dellcrest family. When visitors come to us and want to come back, that’s a testament to the warmth of our congregation. So let’s make sure we remember the main focus of the Great Commission. However, this may not be easy to do, so we might need training on how to greet strangers and each other because we need to know the difference between proper public conversation and when to leave the joking elsewhere. This is important because we have people who are not a part of our congregation that are watching us and need to see a proper image of God’s children as they have been commanded to interact with each other. Also, we should be trained on greeting each other properly because we want to make sure that everyone feels accepted.
