GOVERNOR JACK MARKELL TO INTRODUCE
SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAYS IN DELAWARE
On Thursday, March 26 Delaware Governor Jack Markell and Delaware State Chamber President
Rich Heffron will introduce “Small Business Saturdays in Delaware,” a campaign designed to
recognize and promote the year-round importance of small business in the First State.
Small Business Saturdays in Delaware is the result of a
partnership between the Delaware State Chamber of
Commerce’s Small Business Alliance and Delmarva
Broadcasting Company. With an online and on air
marketing campaign, Delmarva will encourage
shoppers in all three counties to support local
businesses every day, and in particular the first
Saturday of every month.
“There are 73,934* small businesses in Delaware.
Together they provide 46 percent* of all private sector
jobs in our state,” Governor Jack Markell said.
“Whether in one of our many downtowns, or in a
shopping center in our suburbs, the entrepreneurial
spirit of the Delaware small business owner is stronger
than ever. This sector of store owners, manufacturers
and service providers is a critical facet of our state’s
economy.”
Governor Markell is featured in two 30 second
promotional announcements that will air on seven different Delmarva radio stations including
WDEL, WSTW, WAFL, WYUS, WNCL, WXDE and WAVD. A special landing page about the
campaign is at delmarvabroadcasting.com/SBS/.
“Delmarva Broadcasting is a huge supporter of shopping locally and it didn’t make sense to us to
just promote ‘buy local’ just once a year,” said Michael Reath, VP/General Manager of
WDEL/WSTW radio and Co-Chair of the Small Business Alliance. “We’re also thrilled to roll out
this campaign on the new WDEL 101.7 FM, which goes on the air April 2nd, and represents a
reaffirmation of our commitment to serve the entire Delaware community.”
On hand for the announcement will be John’s Home Appliance Center owners John and Marian
Passero in Claymont, DSCC member Paula Janssen of Janssen’s Market in Greenville and several
members of the SBA board of managers who represent many other Delaware small businesses.
