The Nicaraguan owned “Hostel Los
March” is a new location for backpackers. It
has 23 beds, a bar and a restaurant. They also
provide transport to the beaches and nearby
towns of Rivas and Peñas Blancas. Hostel
Los March is located in Avenida Pedro
Joaquin Chamorro, behind El Gato Negro,
up the hill next to the 3 Chamorro
townhouses on the left.

of Comedor Margarita, has now officially
taken over the business and has called it
Comedor Las Flores. They will continue to
provide the same level of attention and
exquisite Nicaraguan food that has
characterized this establishment which can

American Airlines– A new nonstop route
between Managua and Dallas (Fort Worth DFW) will start on June 7th 2015. US Flight
2200 will depart at 8:30 am from Managua
International Airport and arrive in Dallas at
1:29 pm. Flight 115 will depart from Dallas
at 3:30 pm and arrive at the Nicaraguan
capital at 6:30 pm. With the addition of this
Dallas flight, Managua will now be directly
connected to ten different locations, 5 of
which are North American cities.
Money Changer Murdered – A 29 year old
“Cambista” who worked at the Peñas
Blancas border crossing was murdered last
Saturday in his house in Sapoá, Cardenas
near the same border crossing. Neighbors
tried in vain to save his life, however he died
from multiple stab wounds to the chest and
neck. The victim; Wilbert Antonio
Matamoros was from the municipality of
Malpaisillo in the Department of León. This
is the second murder in Sapoá in less than a
month and the tenth in Rivas in the first four
months of the year, only two which have
been cleared up by the police.
Iran/Nicaragua Friendship - Iran's
Ambassador to Nicaragua, Saeid Zare said
that Iran will be interesting in helping
Nicaragua with the Grand Interoceanic
Canal Project and like othercountries; they
will wait and see where they can help. He
suggested that they could contribute towards
training, engineering and infrastructure
based on tunnel and bridge projects they
have completed in Iran. Both governments
are studying how they can improve trade
between the two countries in the coming
years.
Sam's Club Getting Closer – Walmart's
Hernán Muntaner (Vice President of
Perishable&Agro Industrial Development
in Central America used the recent Agro
IndustrialFair 2015 (Feria Agroindustrial
2015) in Managua to announce that Walmart
will invest US$ 46.7 million in Nicaragua in
2015, more than a quarter of that budget will
be used to build the first Walmart brand store
in the country. Up until now, Walmart have
operated under the Palí, Maxi Pali and La
Union trade names. The store will be on the
Carretera Sur in Managua and will have a
retail area of 4,500 square meters (with
another 1,500 dedicated to storage) as well
as parking for about 300 cars. The proposed

opening date is the end of this year and
willgenerate more than 1,500 direct and
indirect jobs making a total of 3,670
Walmart workers in Nicaragua.
“Ask HKND about Financing” - Was the
answer Paul Oquist gave to the United
Nations Economic Commission for Latin
America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) when
asked about where the funds for the Grand
Interoceanic Canal were going to come
from. Oquist, the Ministerial Secretary on
Public Policy for the President of Nicaragua
made it clear that Wang Jing and HKND are
responsible for obtaining the financing and
have pledged to provide the US $ 50 billion
required (the initial estimate) for the project.
Oquist acknowledged that feasibility studies
are still ongoing and that 100% of the land
needed for the canal route needs to be
purchased before any of the critical
construction (dredging, excavation and
earthwork), can begin.
Inter City Bus ¿Fare Increase? - Leaders
of intercity transport unions are pursuing the
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure
(MTI) for a tariff review for over 500 routes
across the country. However, MTI boss,
Pablo Fernando Martinez maintains the
position that the demand is not justified.
Carriers say that the last rate change was
June 2012 and since then they have lost a
state subsidy, therefore they need an
adjustment. Unions say that by law, a fee
review should be made every six months yet
it's almost three years since the last time the
price of a fare was changed.
Honduras Follows Nicaragua - The
Supreme Court in Honduras voted 5-0 last
Thursday to strike down the prohibition on
presidential re-election (a vote by one judge
was reversed later in the day making it a 4 -1
decision). This was the issue that led to the
ousting of Manuel Zelaya six years ago
when he sought to hold a referendum on the
very same thing. This means that President
Juan Orlando Hernandez could seek a
second term if he wished. After the vote,
former President Rafael Leonardo Callejas
(1990 to 1994) announced that he was
looking to run for the presidency again.The
court's 4-1 vote voided Article 239 of
Honduras' constitution which stated that no
one who has served as president may hold
the post again. The judges ruled that “no law
may restrict the rights of Hondurans.”

American Airlines - Una nueva ruta sin
escalas entre Managua y Dallas (Fort Worth
- DFW) comenzará el 07 de junio de 2015. El
Vuelo 2200 de US saldrá a las 8:30 de la
mañana desde el Aeropuerto Internacional
de Managua y llegara a Dallas a las 1:29
horas. El Vuelo 115 partirá desde Dallas a las
3:30 pm y llegará a la capital de Nicaragua a
las 6:30 pm. Con la incorporación de este
vuelo a Dallas, Managua ahora estará
directamente conectado con diez lugares
diferentes, 5 de las cuales son las ciudades
norteamericanas.
Cambista de dinero Asesinado - De 29
años de edad era el "Cambista" que trabajaba
en el cruce fronterizo de Peñas Blancas, fue
asesinado el pasado sábado en su casa en
Sapoá, Cárdenas cerca del mismo cruce
fronterizo. Los vecinos trataron en vano de
salvar su vida, sin embargo murió de
múltiples heridas de arma blanca en el pecho
y el cuello. La víctima; Wilbert Antonio
Matamoros era del municipio de
Malpaisillo, en el Departamento de León.
Este es el segundo asesinato en Sapoá, en
menos de un mes y el décimo en Rivas en los
primeros cuatro meses del año, sólo dos se
han aclarado por la policía.
Amistad de Irán / Nicaragua - El
embajador iraní en Nicaragua, Saeid Zare
dijo que Irán estará interesado para ayudar a
Nicaragua con el Proyecto del Gran Canal
Interoceánico y al igual que otros países; van
a esperar y ver donde pueden ayudar. Él
sugirió que podrían contribuir a la
formación, la ingeniería y la infraestructura
basada en túneles y puentes proyectos que
han completado en Irán. Ambos gobiernos

Public Private Partnership - Security Project

On Friday April 24th at the restaurant El Globo, there was a meeting of
the on of the project Plan for the Prevention, Detection and
Management of Public Security in the resort town of San Juan del Sur.
The presentation was attended by businesses from the coastal areas
(who see more crime and criminal activity). This project has been
managed by the Tourism Cabinet in conjunction with The Foundation
Union Nicaraguan for Corporate Social Responsibility (uniRSE) who
provided funds for the project.
The aim of the presentation of the project is to elaborate on the idea of
creating partnerships with businesses to achieve the scope and
expected results of this project which is to improve the issue of public
safety and security through prevention. Another part of the project is to
implement training programs and job placement schemes for persons

the community of Ostional located 27
kilometers south of the urban area of ​San

Ostional Fishermen and Divers
Organize into a Cooperative

Some 38 fishermen and divers from the community of Ostional in the Municipality of San
Juan del Sur have decided to organize a cooperative with the name "Pablo René Collado” for
the fishermen and divers who drive the activity in the fishing area off the Pacific coast of
Ostional, confirmed on April 26, Julio Collado, a member of the Board.
Collado said the diving and fishing cooperative also aims to insert themselves in the tourist
activities that are developing in the area. The members of the cooperative are working on the
social component, distributing resources among members, promoting solidarity and mutual
support. The partners who deliver fish collected by the cooperative are paid at market price.
The Cooperative is developing a business plan that will allow for better marketing of their
products. The fishermen have received support from the local government of San Juan del
Sur who gave them the land for the construction of their wholesale center (acopio) and the
NGO Paso Pacifico have given them training.

Unos 38 pescadores y buzos de la comunidad del Ostional del municipio de San Juan del Sur
decidieron organizarse en una cooperativa con el nombre de “Pablo René Collado”, los
trabajadores de la pesca impulsan la actividad de buceo y la pesca artesanal en el litoral del
mar pacífico de Ostional, así lo confirmó el pasado 26 de abril, Julio Collado, miembro de la
Junta Directiva.
Collado, dijo que la cooperativa de pesca y buceo tiene como meta insertase en las
actividades turísticas que les permita desarrollarse en el sector turístico de la zona, agregó
que los socios de la cooperativa de Pesca, trabajan en el componente social distribuyendo los
recursos entre los miembros, estamos fomentando la solidaridad y el apoyo mutuo ente
todos. Los socios que entregan pescado al acopio de la cooperativa reciben pago a precio de
mercado.
La Cooperativa está elaborando un plan de negocio que les permitirá mejores condicione
para la comercialización de sus productos. Los Pecadores han recibido apoyo del gobierno
local de San Juan del Sur al entregarles el terreno para la construcción de su acopio, la
organización no gubernamental Paso Pacifico les han brindado capacitación.

Some 60 male and female students from the Stella Maris School
in San Juan del Sur participated in the cleaning of the coast and
central park area on April 22nd as a way of celebrating World
Earth Day, so confirmed Professor Edgar Enrique Maliaños,
Deputy Director of the school.
Students Arelis Pereira y Denis López both in the eleventh grade
of high school said the project of garbage collection aims to
promote awareness so that people protect the environment, as
well as boosting childhood education on the protection of our
mother earth.
Edgar Enrique Maliaños said that the school is promoting a
classroom reading study relating to the protection of the
environment, especially by children.
Maliaños, said school authorities of Stella Maris, with the
municipality, have been promoting an ongoing campaign of
cleaning the beaches and boardwalks of the tourist town of San
Juan del Sur. The school is committed to the protection of nature.
The April 22nd Earth Day is celebrated worldwide as a collective
expression of the public will to create more sustainable societies.
It serves to educate, mobilize and inspire actions of people at an
international level for the protection of the environment.

Unos de 60 estudiantes de ambos sexos pertenecientes al centro
escolar Stella Maris de San Juan del Sur participaron en la
limpieza de las costas y la zona del parque central el 22 de abril
en celebración del día mundial de la tierra, así lo confirmo el
profesor Edgar Enrique Maliaños, sub director del centro
escolar.
Los estudiantes Arelis Pereira y Denis López, ambos del
undécimo grado de secundaria, dijeron que el proyecto de
recolección de basura tienen como objetivo promover la
concientización para que los pobladores protejan el medio
ambiente, además de impulsar en la niñez la educación sobre la
protección de nuestra madre tierra.
El Lic. Edgar Enrique Maliaños, expreso que el centro escolar
está promoviendo en las aulas de estudio la lectura referida a la
protección del medio ambiente y sobre todo en los niños y niñas.
Maliaños, afirmó que las autoridades del centro escolar Stella
Maris viene promoviendo en coordinación con la municipalidad
una campaña permanente de limpieza en las Costas y Malecón de
la ciudad turística de San Juan del Sur, el centro escolar está
comprometido con la protección de la naturaleza.
El 22 de abril es Día de la Tierra. Se celebra en todo el mundo,
como expresión colectiva de la voluntad pública de crear
sociedades más sustentables. El Día de la Tierra sirve para
educar, movilizar e inspirar acciones de personas a nivel
internacional por la protección del medio ambiente.
Sanjuaneño makes National U-17 Team
Noel Donaldo Álvarez Sandino was born in San Juan del Sur on
January 31, 1998 year to parents and Iris Guadalupe Sandino Lugo and
Noel Álvarez Víctor (Fory) and ex midfield football player from the
San Juan del Sur Football team. Noel explained "Since my childhood I
liked to play football, I would go to the beach to play football with my
father who managed to identify my soccer skills from a small age”.
Alvarez added; "I started my football career at age 7, I was an active
player in Little League U12 at the Municipal Soccer Field and was
scoring champion tied with Milton Torrentes Gallo with 9 goals each.
Noel says, "My personal practice continued on the beach and in the
countryside with my dad. He explained the rules and playing
techniques.” At the age of 12, Alvarez joined the talent school in Rivas
which participates in several national tournaments. He was selected
three times to be called to the Sub 15 national team but for different
reasons was not given a chance to play until 2013 when he was called to
play in the Sub 15 National Tournament.
January 16, 2014 he joined the talent school “Black July" in Diriamba
achieving a permanent position among 32 players selected from
around Nicaragua. He played in various football matches at both
national and international level. One of the most important games was
on March 27th of that year against the selection of Honduras when
Nicaragua won 2-0. Following that success, Alvarez was invited to join
the team Managua FC in the Capital City as a central defender, a move
from center field.
Noelia Alvarez (sister of Noel) said “He has a special charisma that
encourages other players. He has responsibility, respect for peers and
referees and has excellent discipline.” Noel appreciates and thanks his
parents and family for the effort and dedication to his sport and had
special words his sister Nohelia for her guidance and encouragement.
Also for his younger sister Ashly for her little words which each day he
remembers “He is her hero and the world's best player.”
He also thanks Professor Harry Villareal for giving him the break
which led him to the youth team, as Professor Carlos Zambrana (Coach
Managua FC who had picked Alvarez from the first time he saw him
play) and to all those who directly or indirectly supported him and
continue to support him in his dreams “that come true every day”.
Noel concludes by saying that his goals as a young athlete are; be
happy, the successful completion of its fifth year in 2015, making a
career, to join other professional football teams (in other categories)
and fulfill them for my parents.

SANJUANEÑO ATLETA DE LA SELECCIÓN
NACIONAL DE FUBTBOL SUB-17
Noel Donaldo Álvarez Sandino, nacido en San Juan del Sur, el 31 de enero del año de1998.
Está jugando fútbol en la selección nacional sub 17. Sus padres son Noel Álvarez Víctor
(Fory) ex medio campista en el equipo de fútbol de San Juan del Sur y la Sra. Iris Guadalupe
Sandino Lugo. Información brindada a Del Sur News, el pasado 27 de abril.
Noel explica; “Desde muy pequeño me gustaba jugar con distintos tipos de balones, me
gustaba ir a jugar fútbol con mi padre a la playa. Mi padre logro identificar mis habilidades
futbolísticas desde pequeño y el talento nato para patear el balón, además de la capacidad de
aprendizaje y análisis cuando me explicaba determinado ejercicio o jugada.”
Alvarez agrego; “Así inicio mi carrera futbolística a los 7 años, fui jugador activo en la Liga
Infantil Sub 12 de fútbol campo (municipal), fui campeón goleador, empatado con Milton
Torrentes Gallo; con 9 goles cada uno; luego incursione en el mundo del fútbol sirviendo de
aguatero en la Liga Departamental Sub 21, donde el equipo de San Juan del Sur quedo subcampeón, logrando observar, aprender y practicar con jóvenes mayores, este ejercicio me
sirvió para mejorara mis conocimientos de fútbol.”
Noel afirma;”Hice mis prácticas personales en la costa y en el campo con mi papá, el me
explicaba reglamentos y técnicas de juego, cómo bajar un balón, como cubrirlo, pase
adecuado al disparar, dominio y control de balón y frescura de mentalidad. Años más tarde, a
la edad de 12 años se integre a la escuela de talentos de Rivas, en la cual participa en distintos
torneos nacionales de escuelas de talentos, donde fue seleccionado en tres ocasiones para
poder ser llamado a la selección sub 15, pero por una y otras razones no se dio la oportunidad,
cuando en el 2013 si le realizan el llamado durante un partido en el torneo nacional sub 15.El
Sr. Javier Londoño entrenador de la selección U-17 pide su información al entrenador de la
escuela de talentos de Rivas; Harry Villarreal.

Me integre a la escuela de talentos “NEGRO JULIO”, en Diriamba (concentración de la
selección) el 16 de enero del 2014, logrando un puesto fijo entre 32 seleccionados de todo
Nicaragua. Realice distintos encuentros futbolísticos a nivel nacional e internacional, siendo
uno de los más importantes el 27 de marzo del mismo año, contra la selección de Honduras,
ganando 2-0.
Luego de terminar la etapa en la selección (el cual era de un año establecido) regresa a su
hogar de vacaciones. Recibe una invitación para integrarse al equipo Managua F.C. de la
ciudad capital, como titular, ocupando la posición de Defensa Central, cabe recalcar que mi
posición original es centro campista.

Así mismo este jugador ha deslumbrado a equipos como el Real Estelí (juvenil) y UNAN
Managua (juvenil), recibiendo ofertas deportivas para torneos próximos. La etapa
futbolística aquí en San Juan del Sur, antes de ser parte de la selección, participe en ligas
municipales categorías libres de fútbol campo, y ligas recreativas de fútbol sala con
(COMUNIDAD CONNECT), ganando 8 veces consecutivas el liderazgo de goleador en mi
categoría, siendo un ejemplo de jugador.
Noelia Alvarez (hermana de Noel) afirma. Tiene un carisma especial que insta a los demás
jugadores a hacer las cosas bien, tiene responsabilidad y respeto por sus compañeros y cuerpo
arbitral. Nos comentaban en todas las ligas en la que ha participado ha finalizado con
excelente disciplina.
El joven Noel, nos dice que desea agradecer de manera muy especial a su padres por el
esfuerzo, dedicación y comprensión dedicada, como también agradece muy fraternamente a
su hermana Nohelia, por guiarle y por tener siempre una palabra de aliento; así como a su
hermanita menor Ashly por sus palabritas en las que cada día le recuerda que para ella: EL ES

Agradece al profesor Harry Villareal, por haberle dado el punta pie, que lo llevo a la selección
juvenil, como también al profesor Carlos Zambrana (entrenador del equipo Managua F: C);
cuando me vio jugar por primera vez, me dijo que yo sería un jugador de su equipo.
Agradecido con todas aquellas personas que directa o indirectamente me apoyaron y me
siguen apoyando en mi sueño que cada día se hace realidad.
Noel finaliza diciendo que sus metas como joven atleta son; Ser feliz, finalizar con éxito su
quinto año en el 2015, hacer una carrera profesional, formar parte de otras selecciones de
fútbol profesional (en otras categorías) y cumplirles a mis padres.
