press kit - summer 2015
from 4th of july to 28th of august 2015
oh,
how beautiful
the mountains are!
A stay in Courchevel, at the gates of the Vanoise National Park, is
the promise of wide-open spaces, lakes and summits, exceptional
panoramas and unexpected encounters, discoveries and shared
experiences. In short, a great feeling!
Courchevel has no less than seven lakes –
with five at high altitude – all remarkable sites
where you can relax and enjoy a wide range
of activities. Each lake has its own identity
and contains a multitude of riches.
press kit - summer 2015 - courchevel
A visit to the resort’s mountain lakes is not
only a chance to admire some unique
sites, but also to enjoy visitor itineraries in an
exceptional setting.
You can access the lakes on foot, by
mountain bike, car or ski lift.
Lake Praz (1300 m)
Between the Olympic ski jumps and the
centre of the village, Lake Praz can be
reached by car, on foot or by ski lift.
A fun-filled and enjoyable leisure area,
with surroundings especially adapted for
walking and relaxation, this is a place to
meet and to return to. Young and old alike
gather around the barbecues and picnic
tables, and if you are looking for something
to do, a wide range of activities are on
offer: inflatable games, beach volleyball,
canoeing,
standup
paddleboarding,
fishing, trampolining and trapezes.
From Lake Praz, visitors can quickly reach
Courchevel 1850, and visit the Saulire, the
highest mountain in the valley (with a view
of Mont Blanc!), by taking the ski lifts.
New : big air bag with inflatable sledge.
Lake Rosière (1500 m)
A Natura 2000-listed natural site
Known for its beauty and peacefulness, this
lake area is a real paradise that has been
specially adapted for visitors. Easy to access,
with a large car park nearby, it is a natural spot
within everyone’s reach.
If you want to relax and feel good, then don’t
miss out on the Rosière site this summer.
Special attention is given to the environment:
from June onwards, visitors can see the rare
and protected plants grown along the botanic
Father Fritsch path. This easy-level walk allows
visitors to discover the large number of species
along the path.
New: adventure course for children aged 3 to 7.
press kit - summer 2015 - courchevel
The Rosière site is also the starting point for
many hikes of all levels of difficulty, towards the
Poux waterfall, the triton pond, the Avals valley
or the Dent du Villard, with outings ranging from
a family walk to a sporting hike.
Around the lake there is a genuine leisure centre
to discover. In this exceptional environment,
visitors can picnic, enjoy the barbecues at their
disposal, do some fishing, set off to explore the
lake in a canoe, or have a go on the via ferrata
and the aerial treetop adventure course.
Lake Bleu (2230 m)
Lake Pêtre (2280 m)
After walking up the Col de la Loze, here
is your reward: the blue lake and its pure,
clear water surrounded by a magnificent
panorama. Part of the way up can be made
by ski lift.
Accessible from the Merlet lakes, by
continuing their hike on an hour-long circuit,
walkers can explore this third lake, located in
the Vanoise National Park.
in the Vanoise National Park
Lake Rateau (2241 m)
This lake is a jewel hidden within
a rocky setting that only the most
energetic can admire. Accessible
from the summit of the Avals valley, the
path is indistinctly marked out! This hike
is for the fittest and most experienced
hikers (technical path), and who have a
hiker’s card (IGN hiking card on sale for
€5 from the Courchevel tourist offices).
You can do some catch and release
fly-fishing here.
Lower Lake Merlet (2390 m in the Vanoise National Park)
Upper Lake Merlet (2450 m in the Vanoise National Park)
These two lakes are within the reach
of intermediary-level walkers who can
choose between ascending the Avals valley
or driving up to the Pyramide car park and
then taking a 30-minute walk to arrive at
these remarkable sites.
Hikers who have come to discover the Merlet
lakes, of which the upper lake is the deepest

the chance to admire the exceptional
Alpine scenery, with the panoramas of the
Vanoise National Park, over 2700 m above
sea level. From leisurely walks to sporting
challenges, there are circuits adapted to
all levels and all wishes.
Mountain biking
If you want to discover the riches of the
environment differently, a large number of
mountain-bike circuits criss-cross the villages
of Courchevel as well as the forests and the
alpine pastures. On your own or in organised
groups, on an electric bike or with only your
own stamina, the routes are adapted to the
participants’ level. You can choose between
an itinerary with a rapid descent or a gentler
ride to relax and explore the region.
Golf
At the foot of the Saulire, on the banks of
Lake Verdons, each year this 9-hole course
attracts fans of technical and uneven terrain.
It has always been a genuine training centre
with a 27-bay driving range, including 10
covered bays.
Also available: putting-green, chipping area
and bunker.

Shopping
Amazing bargains all through the summer.
Retailers sell off their collections at great low
prices.
Via Ferrata
The via ferrata itineraries are within the
scope of any good walker who is not afraid
of heights. In Courchevel, the via ferratas
give access to a mountain walk along a
signposted route equipped with cables
and ladders, making progress along the
mountain faces easier. To start with, a
beginners’ circuit overlooks Lake Rosière.
The walk then continues along the slabs,
rock faces and ledges of the Croix des
Verdons. This via is known as one of the
highest and most beautiful in France,
since it is one of the rare routes where the
climb finishes at a summit. Beginners and
experts can discover a unique site in three
and a half hours. The departure and arrival
are from the arrival point of the Saulire
cable car.
Escalade
Do you feel like getting a new perspective
on the mountains? Via ferrata and climbing
are activities to discover or to enjoy again.
To get to the summits and enjoy some great
sensations, Courchevel’s fully equipped and
protected climbing sites are adapted to all.
The face of the Grande Val, in the Avals
valley, is a particularly accessible site. Only
20 minutes on foot from the 1650 water
reserve, the Spanish Road takes climbers to
the foot of the mountain face. Around ten
routes between 200 and 250 metres, from
beginner to expert level, are there for
you to discover. These fine routes, ranging
from easy to difficult, enjoy great levels of
sunshine, and the climb is made on a rock
of exceptional quality.
The great adventurer routes situated on the
Pointe Emilienne, between Méribel and
Courchevel, are genuine mountaineers’
climbing routes. The reward for those who
reach the summit is a magnificent view of
the summits all around.
Lastly, you might like to try the highmountain routes and itineraries of the
Portetta. Nicknamed “the little Dolomites”,
the rock is exclusively made up of
resurgences of dolomite, a particular form
of limestone that is only present here and in
Italy. This geological curiosity is unique to
Courchevel, since it exists nowhere else in
all the western Alps.
For an all-weather activity, the 13-metrehigh climbing wall of the Courchevel
Forum is especially appreciated by children.
Sports tournaments
Sports tournaments: beach volleyball, table tennis, human curling, broomball…
