How to Avoid
Debit Card and
Overdraft Fees
EDUCATIONAL
CORNER
In an effort to help our members avoid getting
charged debit card and overdraft fees, please be
aware of the following:
• Every time you swipe your debit card to make a
purchase, if you choose DEBIT (meaning you have to
enter your PIN number which constitutes a
pin-based transaction), then you will be charged
a $1 fee. Basically, that transaction is processed
through the system as an ATM transaction, thus you
are charged the $1 ATM fee. In order to avoid this
fee, simply choose CREDIT instead of debit.
• The $25 overdraft fee occurs on your account when
you do not have enough available funds in your
account to cover purchases made. Please be aware
that holds placed on your account for “pending”
debit card transactions and/or for payroll checks that
have been placed on hold – reduce your available
balance and may cause your account to become
overdrawn. In order to avoid a fee, it’s very important
that you keep track of ALL your transactions on a daily
basis (This of course also includes checks that you may
have written as well), so you know exactly how much
money you have available in your account.
Here’s two helpful ways to keep track of your transactions:
1) The next time you are in one of our branches, ask
for a “debit card registry book”, which is a small blank
book registry that you can carry with you on a daily
basis – to record your transactions in. Once you have
your debit card registry book – if you don’t feel like
recording the transaction amounts at the time you are
making a purchase, then simply save your receipts and
record all of them in your book at the end of each day.
2) If you can’t come into one of our branches any time
soon, then just create your own recording transaction
ledger by simply using a piece of paper or a small notepad. And, once again – if you don’t feel like recording
the transaction amounts at the time you are making a
purchase, then simply save your receipts and record all
of them on your note pad at the end of each day.
We hope that you find this information helpful. Should
you have any questions, then please feel free to call
us at 816-861-5700.

Gift Card Promotions
Our Annual
Car Sale was
a success!
BIG congratulations to the following members who
are winners of our “grocery giveaway” and “gas
giveaway” promotions that ran from February 1,
2014 to April 30, 2014!
Join us next
year!
Our lot was filled with cars to be sold!
Our annual car sale this past May, in which we
teamed up with Jack Miller Kia, was a success!
Many cars were sold to our members, and gas
cards were given out to those who purchased a
car, along with other gifts including an 88 pc tool
kit, fix-a-flat, and oil change! Members also enjoyed
a free lunch. Both new and used cars with special
pricing were featured from Jack Miller Kia.
If you’re in the market now for a used or new car, let
us help. We can offer you a low rate car loan for your
car purchase. With our vehicle loans as low as 2.75%
APR*, now is still a great time to buy a car! Also, if you
have a car loan with another financial institution,
then you should check to see if we can refinance
it for you at a lower rate! We’ve done it for many
members! QUESTIONS? Call us at 816-861-5700.
*APR = Annual Percentage Rate. For qualified borrowers only. Loan rates
subject to change without notice. Loans issued subject to credit review. 2.75%
APR rate available with approved credit on vehicles financed up to 36 months
for 2012 & newer vehicles with credit score 701 and above or up to 24 months
for 2011 & older vehicles with credit score 701 and above. Further restrictions
may apply. See credit union for details. Available on cars, trucks & SUVs. No
recreational vehicles.
