Project Description: In 2003, state parks which were wholly owned by the Board of
Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund (BTIITF) were formally designated
into the Florida Greenways and Trails System. Efforts are underway to designate the
remaining state parks, and to update information on those designated in 2003 based on
the most recent jurisdiction report.
Of the 3,319.04 acres which comprises Hillsborough River State Park, the BTIITF owns
2,943.90, and Hillsborough County owns 375.14.
FGTS Plan Status:
Priority Trail Network: In some cases, existing or planned priority trails run
through or are adjacent to state parks, or they may be in close proximity and can be
connected by a spur trail. State parks can often serve as trailheads, points-of-interest,
and offer amenities such as camping, showers or laundry, providing valuable services
for trail users while increasing state park visitation.
Staff Recommendation: OGT recommends approval of the Designation.
