Stranger at the Door
Here at The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch, we receive many questions regarding
the door-to-door salesperson or solicitor. Texas State law does not prevent door-to-door salespersons
and/or solicitors, this largely stems from the U. S. Supreme Court decision that characterizes solicitation
as an expression of free speech and is therefore protected by the U. S. Constitution.
Be Aware of what to do when a “Stranger is at your Door!”

No matter how you look at it, a solicitor is a stranger! You wouldn’t open your door to a stranger,
so why would you open your door for a solicitor?
Solicitation is not illegal. As a resident, you make the choice of whether to listen or buy from a solicitor.
Not only is it important for our adult residents to be aware, but especially important for our children.
You will be setting a good example, by not opening the door.
Consider this: it is much harder to close the door once it is opened!
Make sure you have a No Solicitor decal near or on the door.
Always acknowledge the stranger’s presence. Through a closed and locked door you might ask,
“May I help you?” or point to your No Solicitor
