Background Information
Since 2008 Denmark has, in addition to supporting North-driven development research projects,
supported South-driven development research projects on a pilot basis. The South-driven
approach has since 2014 been institutionalised in three of the of the Danida priority countries;
Ghana, Tanzania, and Nepal. In the South-driven approach the institutions in the South take the
lead in defining the projects, selecting Danish research partners, and managing the research
projects.
