Dr. Faith received her Bachelor of Science (BSc), majoring in
Chemistry and Microbiology, studying environmental science studies
as minor at the University of Dar es salaam (UDSM) Tanzania in
2002, MRes (Master of Research in Clean Chemical Technology
(Green Chemistry) degree from the University of York (UK) in March
2007 and PhD in natural products at Sokoine University Agriculture,
Tanzania in 2013. She has been trained on chemicals from
bioresources, specializing on biogas production from plant wastes at
the German bioresources centre (DBFZ), sponsored by ICS UNIDO:
Trained in the United Kingdom and Kenya on the use of analytical
instruments and techniques for natural products analysis and
identification, which include HPLC and GCMS. Faith is involved in
teaching, research, outreach and consultancy. Teaching
undergraduate (Chemistry) and postgraduate (analytical chemistry)
courses and supervising research and special projects at Sokoine
University of Agriculture. She has being involved in different projects
at different capacities as administrator and researcher. Currently she
co-administering two natural product based project at SUA funded
by The Carnegie Rise African Network for Research and Training in
Natural Products, this a regional Project covering Kenya, Uganda na
Tanzania associating with other universities in Sub Saharan African.
Also administering a collaborative project under the South African /
Tanzania research partnership programme bilateral collaborative
initiative between the three research and training Institutions:
Sokoine University of Agriculture (Tanzania), Biosciences, CSIR (South
Africa) and InPheno, Basel with the focus on biotechnology based
screening technologies, training and development of scientific
expertise and participation in scientific networks in developing new
treatments effective against HIV/AIDS that are based on indigenous
plants and knowledge from Tanzania. She is an active academic and
researcher having published a total of 10 papers, 3 book/book
Chapter and 3 Patents. She has supervised a total of 10 special
undergraduate projects, 6 MSc and 3 PhD students ongoing. Faith is
member of various institutional, national and international
organizations that include Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), Natural
Products Research Network of Eastern and Southern Africa
(NAPRECA) and Tanzania Association of Public, Occupational and
Environmental Health Experts (TAPOHE).
