Panguni Uthiram, celebrated in
March/April every year is a very famous
festival, especially for Lord Muruga. It is
special because of the star Uthiram &
Pournami occurring together. The Divine
marriage of Parvati & Parameshwara took
place on this day. It is also on this day that
Sri Valli married Lord Muruga. A special
feature of this celebration is that in Lord
Subramanya temples all over the world, his
devotees – adults and children, carry the
requisites for puja on their shoulders in a
Kavadi, carry a pot of milk (Paalkudam) on
their heads and go around the temple in a
procession, for fullfillment of vows.
