The Parent and Family Resource Centre (trading as Disability Connect) is delighted to announce the
Chinese Families Autism Support Group meeting in June 2015.
Parents of children who have Autism often experience challenging behaviours from their children.
This topic of this meeting will be on strategies for behaviour based on the principal of Applied
Behaviour Analysis (ABA), which covers:




Understanding behaviour
How to ‘read’ your child’s behaviour
Understanding the functions of behaviour
What strategies to use to deal with behaviour
Elisa Slaat works as a services manager for the Children’s Autism Foundation. She has a Masters
degree in special education from the Netherlands, trained as an ABA therapist and worked as for the
Centre for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) for 4 years doing intensive ABA training with
children at home and in schools. At the Children’s Autism Foundation she provides outreach
services, skills through play sessions, the Stepping Stones Triple P programme and is coordinator for
the Join In Jumping Beans programme. The presentation will start promptly at 10am (presentation
will be interpreted into Mandarin). Print copies of the presentation (in English) will be given to all
attendees.

All Chinese and Asian families raising a child with Autism are welcome to this meeting. Please
inform as many parents as possible about this meeting.
