Newsletter 29 Tuesday 5th May 2015
Dear Parents,
I hope you all enjoyed the extra day off yesterday for the Bank Holiday – at least we managed one
nice day of weather out of the weekend!.
General Election
On Thursday it is the General Election. School is not affected by this and will be open as normal.
Polling takes place in Ladybirds Pre-school and therefore will be closed for the day.
We will be discussing the election with the children at an age appropriate level and some children will
learn further details about Parliament and what the Election means for our country.
Visitor in School
In last Monday’s assembly we were joined by Casey, a Ground Officer from the Regiment, who led
an informative assembly about her career to date. The children asked a wide range of questions and
enjoyed looking at the photographs which showed the opportunities available to people through Army
training.
If you are interested in sharing your career path with the children then please let me know and I can
organise an assembly time for that to happen.
Year 5 French Afternoon – News from the children
Last Wednesday we went to Boroughbridge High School to speak French and Spanish. We had a
lesson in a café and had to order food in French. After that the lesson was to speak about which
sports we liked and disliked. The last lesson was about the weather. In Spanish we learnt the words
for clothes and colours.
Wig Wednesday
On Wednesday 20th May we are taking part in Wig Wednesday.
This is to raise money for CLIC Sargent a charity which supports children and young people who
have been diagnosed with cancer: www.clicsargent.org.uk
We would like to make Wednesday 20th May a non-uniform day in school and the children may also
wear a wig if they would like. We are asking for £1 donation for this worthwhile charity.

Freedom of Boroughbridge Parade – Thursday 21st May
On Thursday 21st May, 9 Regt AAC is having a Freedom of Boroughbridge Parade in the town. To
mark the occasion we are taking the whole school to watch the parade and medal presentation and
we are all very much looking forward to it. A separate consent letter was sent home today.
Nut Free School – Advance Notice
From Monday 1st June we will be a nut free school.
The school will from the 1st June now have a ‘No Nut’ policy- could you please ensure that
no food items containing nuts or plain nuts are sent into school with your child. We will be
admitting children in to school over the course of the next two terms who have nut allergies
and we want to reduce any possibility of them coming in to contact with nuts at school.
Thank you.
Assessment Guide for Parents
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, on the school website under Newsletters as well as under
Assessment is our new Assessment Guide for Parents. This guide explains the new systems which
are in place for Dishforth Airfield Primary School for this academic year due to the new changes
made by the Government. This year sees primary schools in England following two curriculums and
two assessment systems: children in Year 2 and 6 are following the old curriculum for the last time
and children in Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 are following the new curriculum. When we held our maths
information session for parents in February, this was explained fully in the context of maths.
Please ensure that you read this document and if you have any questions or queries then
please don’t hesitate to ask me.
Outdoor Play Equipment – update
The outdoor equipment has been checked and is safe to use. There are arrows on the equipment to
indicate the start and the way round. If children under pre-school age are using the equipment
please can I politely remind parents that they need to be supervising their own children and
that they are responsible for the safety of pre-school children on the playground at all times –
thank you.
Spring / Summer Weather
Just a reminder for the Summer Term that children need to wear proper school shoes throughout the
term. No flip flops or flimsy sandals thank you.
