What you will need for this procedure:

Replacement Intel® True Scale Fabric Director Switch Leaf Module, 12000 Series (of same
type as the original)
o
ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) Wrist Strap

Label IB Cables
o
Label the IB cables with the connected port number. This will help in replacing the cables to the
correct ports.
o
Each Leaf will have port ID Labels. Refer to the below diagrams for port IDs depending on the
type of Leaf:
QDR 18 Port Leaf
QDR 24 Port Leaf

Remove IB Cables
o
Holding the cable in one hand, pull the release tab. Continuing pull the tab to remove the cable
from the port.

Mechanical Release Latch
o
If the Leaf that is going to be replaced is in one of the chassis management slots (see Page 4),
the Mechanical Release Leaf (MRL) will need to be moved. If this is the case, go to Step 4.
o
Otherwise go to Step 6.

Loosen the Mechanical Release Latch (MRL)
o
Turn the MRL thumbscrew counterclockwise until it pops out. As the MRL is loosened, the MRL
LED will go out.

Pull the Release Arms down on both sides of the Leaf.

Verify Leaf Type
o
Make sure the Replacement Leaf is of the same type.
o
If the New Leaf is of a different type, contact your Authorized Service Provider.

Insert New Leaf into Chassis
o
Slide the Leaf Module straight into the open slot until it engages with the backplane connector.

Rotate Arms into Locked Position
o
Rotate the Arms into the locked position. Once locked, the Leaf will power up.
