They help companies, research organisations and universities as well as political stakeholders to network with leading business and research organisations in Europe. SEZ ensures that European funding for research and innovation flows to Baden-Württemberg and that BadenWürttemberg’s companies participate in European research and innovation projects. Reinhardt © Michael M. Roth, MicialMedia Transnational Technology Transfer Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum is a member of numerous European networks. As a partner in the Enterprise Europe Network of the European Commission it stimulates and accompanies technological cooperations. In 2014, SEZ implemented several additional pilot projects providing support in the area of transnational technology transfer. SEZ is involved in networks for the promotion of business and technology: • Network of the more than 1,000 Steinbeis enterprises of the Steinbeis Foundation • Leading-Edge Cluster Electric Mobility South-West • Leading-Edge Cluster MicroTEC Southwest • Network Technology Assessment • Association of Innovation and Technology Transfer Germany (DTI) • Member in eleven Sector Groups of the Enterprise Europe Network • European Cluster Alliance • TCI – The Global Practitioners Network for Competitiveness, Clusters and Innovation Recognising key technologies at an early stage and actively shaping them is becoming increasingly important for these decisionmakers. At the same time it is important to identify new topics in time and to apply for relevant European project funding. Working with leading partners in Europe and the promotion of a strong European Research Area are key elements to effectively secure the competitiveness of Baden-Württemberg’s companies. SEZ is involved in this area, inter alia in the development of future-oriented cluster policies with regard to emerging markets, such as active ageing and sustainable mobility using key technologies such as photonics, nanotechnology, microtechnology (Project CluStrat). In the framework of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region it supports technology transfer through the development of transfer centres in the Danube region (Projects Danube TTC, NoGAP, Danube INCO Net). As a partner in the two national leading-edge clusters MicroTEC Southwest and Electric Mobility South-West it develops strategies to ensure international competitiveness and sustainability of the clusters. It supports both leading-edge clusters in the positioning in the global race for future markets, such as through strategic partnerships in the European Research Area (Projects Futures International, ProExcellence and INSEM-SW). • Technology Innovation Information (TII), a European network With the aim of accelerating the transition from research into marketable products, SEZ accompanied SMEs in Baden-Württemberg intensively along the innovation process. The European innovation projects often include pilot and demonstration activities. SEZ develops the necessary steps for exploitation and market introduction, often combined with new business models, in large projects such as in the area of Smart Cities (projects BRICKER, CITyFiED, KIC InnoEnergy – innovation projects, R2CITIES, TIPS). Futures Strategies and Innovation Partnerships For regional and international institutions, such as ministries, economic development agencies and the European Commission, but also for companies, Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum has developed an integrated approach to support forward-looking investment decisions, the regulatory environment, new product developments and strategic partnerships systematically. Gender and Innovation Gender and diversity in research and innovation are important factors that are crucial for the competitiveness of companies. Mixed teams are more creative, because diversity at all levels challenges us to deal with a variety of ideas and methods. This opens new perspectives, which in turn lead to new solutions. By carrying out events and projects Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum helps to ensure that gender is no longer understood only as an equality of opportunities, but is rather a factor to be considered in all innovation-related activities. This also affects the way of operation in innovation systems such as clusters or so-called „innovation communities“ such as the KIC InnoEnergy. Within the framework of KIC InnoEnergy, SEZ is actively involved in the „European Network of Women for Innovative Energy Solutions“ (Women4Energy). It networks women from research and industry in all energy-related issues and contributes to research results being brought to market. As a member of the TCI Network, the global cluster community, SEZ was involved in the establishment of the working group on gender and innovation. © Burkhardt – Mayer – Fotografie GbR © Michael M. As part of a weeklong Summer School of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, SEZ conducted trainings on application bidding and technology transfer for the Danube Region. In addition, training sessions were held focusing on the exploitation of research results (Projects Fit4Health et al). In 2014, SEZ ran over 80 events interspersed with twelve international conferences. The kick-off event for Horizon 2020 was carried out on behalf of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and the Ministry of Finance and Economics Baden-Württemberg, a conference on vocational training, the “Europaforum” and the Open Innovation Congress on behalf of the Ministry of Finance and Economics.
