DOWNTOWN HERITAGE SIGN GRANT PROGRAM
Orillia’s Historic Downtown provides a quaint and inviting place for residents and visitors to enjoy. All signage in the BIA
is required to meet Victorian heritage style parameters to ensure there is a consistent brand and feel to the downtown
core.
We understand that these types of signs can be expensive, for that reason The Downtown Orillia Management Board
(DMB), in partnership with the City of Orillia, established the Heritage Sign Grant Program to assist businesses in meeting
sign design criteria.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
The applicant shall be the tenant, registered owner or authorized agent of the property. If a tenant wishes to apply, a
letter from the building owner approving the work is required. Furthermore, applicants must not be in default of any
municipal taxes or local improvement charges.
Applicants can qualify for forty percent (40%) of the total cost, to a maximum of $1,000.
Sign grants will be paid out over a three (3) year period with the first installment being paid upon completion of the
project; second installment on the first anniversary of completion and the final installment paid on the second
anniversary of completion.
APPROVALS AND PROCESS
The Downtown Orillia Management Board is responsible for overseeing and approving all Sign Grant Applications.
The DMB will finalize the approval of all grant applications with a motion, provided there are sufficient funds remaining.
When the work is completed the applicant is required to submit a photo of the finished work along with copies of the
paid receipts, before the granted funds are released.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
A completed Downtown Heritage Sign Grant Program Application must include:




A complete Downtown Heritage Sign Grant Program Application Form
A sketch, or sketches, of the proposed sign with colour chips;
3 estimated cost breakdowns from qualified designers/contractors (quotes);
If you are a tenant of the building, owner signature approving the proposed work.

DOWNTOWN HERITAGE SIGN GRANT APPLICATION FORM
This program is available to owners and tenants of buildings used for commercial purposes in the Downtown Orillia
Business Improvement Area. Applicants are eligible to receive grant funding of forty percent (40%) of the total cost, to a
maximum of $1,000, whichever is less.
Any work undertaken prior to approval will not be eligible for reimbursement through this program.
