Let’s Craft! Let’s Create!
We imagine, plan and wish to create a lot of things. Don’t you feel like crafting out some awesome
articles or even your own clothes.
How exciting it can get if you are given an option of designing and creating
new things, using materials of your own choice. You never know! You might
just end up discovering something truly amazing and out of this world. But
how do we go about it?
Let us read a short story about ‘Chester Greenwood’ who designed
something very interesting to overcome his problem.
‘Chester Greenwood lived a long time ago in Maine. Chester had a problem. His ears got very cold in the
winter. He set a goal. He wanted to find a way to keep his ears warm. Chester Greenwood planned to use
a heavy wool scarf to stay warm. He tied it around his head. It kept his ears warm. However, the scarf was
itchy. He wanted to find a better solution to his problem. He planned again. He made ear flaps to cover his
ears. He used different materials and realized wool is the best suitable for earmuffs. Chester made oval
loops out of wire. Then he tried to cover the loops with soft materials. This kept his ears warm. With the
help of what he had already made, he modified the designed and made a very comfortable band over the
ear muffs. ‘
a. On the basis of what you just read, let us design something very interesting.
You are asked to design a sports uniform for ‘The Sports Day function of your school. What steps would
you undertake to make it ,you can choose the fabric according to the following criterias



Light on the skin

Colourful and Suitable for the weather
Give reason as to why you have chosen the particular type of fabric and its advantages. You can present
your design in any creative form by giving a different pattern, making a logo, using bright colour
combinations. You can also give a name to the uniform you designed. (Draw it on A4 size sheet)
We shall have a good collection of uniform designs once we are all back to school. We can share our
designs, explore the variety and prepare the best one using everyone’s insights.

I'm the orange-colored dot, way up high.
Which planet am I? __________________________________
2. With over 63 moons, you might say I have a lot.
Look with a telescope to see my big, red spot.
The spot is a wind storm, swirling around.
High in the night sky is where I can be found.
Which planet am I? __________________________________
3. I'm blue and green and a little brown.
I'm a small planet with life all around.
They call me the third rock from the sun

Which planet am I? __________________________________
4. No matter how hard you look, you'll never find me,
Unless you have a telescope to help you see.
I was once called a planet, but not any more
Now I'm just a “Dwarf Planet,” but too important to ignore.

5. Look very close to the sun and you'll spot,
A tiny, cratered planet that's very hot.
