ROCK TOOLS Surface Drilling Solution Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS Bench drilling tools are mainly used in open-pit mining, quarrying, hydropower, road and railway projects etc. We can recommend suitable solutions to meet various demands of our customers and help these customers to save on drilling costs and earn more profits. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS 1、 Weathered rock, Soft rock & fissured rock This rock type is widely found in open pit mining, infrastructure projects & ground treatment etc. For drilling the mixture of soil, soft and hard rock, we need to choose a drill string with universal and good flushing design characteristics. Customers are encouraged to use a drilling string made by the same manufacturer such as button bits, extension rods, couplings and shank adaptor as this can reduce the breakage of extension rods caused by poor thread connection between opposing products. For Weathered rock, Soft rock & Fissured rock, we recommend the following designs: B89T45-D854A, Drop Center During drilling in fissured and heterogeneous rock, cracks and different rock can cause hole deviation. Drop Centre design has better flushing characteristics than that of Flat Face design, and the cuttings are distributed evenly around the steel body, so minimizing steel wash. Drop center design contributes to good hole straightness. The gauge buttons protrude in front of the front buttons, and cut an edge that that gives good guidance to the bit. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS B102T51-RD864A For fissured and heterogeneous rock, besides V-Shape and Drop Center designs, we strongly recommend customers choose Retrac skirt bits which allows the button bit to “drill” in reverse if the bit becomes bogged. This is an important feature when drilling in loose, broken or fissured rock where it can be difficult to retract the drill string due to hole collapse. In addition, Retrac bits have deep grooves milled along the bit body for efficient cutting removal. The good guidance of this bit gives straighter holes. G102T51-V864S, V-Shape We optimized carbide configuration of button bits by 3D CAD design software and simulated surface drilling condition. The rock cuttings at the bottom of hole can be blown out of the hole quickly as we improve the design of flushing holes and grooves of the button bit based on strict calculation of air velocity and pressure, which reduce wear of carbides from rock cuttings and increase overall drilling speed. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS 2、Medium hard rock and homogeneous rock For Medium hard rock and Homogeneous rock, we recommend the following designs: Such rock formation is frequently seen in surface mining, infrastructure construction and quarrying. In this type of rock drilling, we see homogeneous rock stratum with medium to hard hardness in the same site. This is an ideal rock formation for rock hole forming. Therefore, drilling efficiency and lifespan should be the main concern for selection of drilling tools to ensure more profits are achieved. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS JSI recommend several drill bit designs for medium hard rock and hard rock: B102T45-862A B76T38842A2 B89T45G964A B115T45-D874A The design features of these models: JSI acquired accurate testing data of various types of open-pit drilling machines through a lot of field research. Accurate air flow and pressure calculations and the rational design of the drill bit flushing area reduces drill bit wear from dust at the bottom of the hole and improve overall drilling speed and lifespan. 3D computer aided designs optimize the drill bit design and button configuration. Thus efficiency of tungsten carbide, footage speed and lifespan of drill bits are greatly improved. Various drill bit designs suitable for medium hard rock and hard rock come from first hand data collected from extensive field trials. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS 3、Extremely Hard rock & Abrasive rock In open pit iron ore mining, hydropower construction aggregate field, railway cornerstone stockyard and some special rock drilling works, we are met with extremely hard rock and abrasive rock. Drilling in this kind of rock formation consumes lots of tools. Its main feature is large drill bit consumption and short lifespan. The major failure is tungsten carbide wear and breakage and drill rod thread wear. Normally we have individual designs for long-term mining users. We will finalize the best designs according to in depth field tests. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS We recommend following designs for extremely Hard rock and Abrasive rock: B89T45-852H B102T51-G983H B115T51-872M B102T51-D864M The design features of these models: In hard rock and extremely hard rock drilling, steel matrix impact is relatively small while impact and wear on tungsten carbide buttons is normally aggressive. “H”- type drill bit design has a specially designed number of tungsten carbide buttons and tungsten carbide strength; “M” -type design is more about tungsten carbide wear caused by quartz. During initial design the drilling process is simulated by computers. Flushing efficiency and lifespan of tungsten carbide are optimized by accurate calculation to improve footage speed and lifespan. The flushing efficiency of the above-mentioned two types of design is not as good as that for soft rock and medium hard rock. Any change of designs away from the above will lead to slow drilling speed, high temperature of the drill bit and even possible breakage. If the rock formation is not clear to the user, “A”-type products are recommended to be used for initial drilling purposes. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS Open-pit Mining Following latest technology trends, satisfying the demand for higher efficiency, our large diameter button bit with new thread achieved outstanding success in many markets. Over time many clients now choose hydraulic drill rigs for open-pit mining. Hydraulic drill rigs have the features such as higher efficiency and energysaving, especially for 115mm to 140mm blast hole diameters. These new hydraulic drill rigs are more powerful. “GT60” rods and bits for the larger hydraulic drill rigs have been designed to provide a more suitable drill string when drilling these larger diameter boreholes. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS As request of our clients, we developed GT60 button bits, size from 115mm to 152mm, which have been widely used around the world: V874S V884S D874A 802A G983H 003H G60 Retrac Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] 993A 882M ROCK TOOLS JSI have two production lines of button bits to meet various demands of clients. If our customer wants to get the best priceperformance ratio, we recommend the button bits made with “Carbide Hot” inserting technology for hard rock drilling and the button bits made by “Carbide Cold” inserting technology for soft rock drilling. Carbide Hot inserting technology The technology was introduced from Finland and same as that of Sandvik and Altas Copco. Raw materials are equivalent to Sandvik or Atlas Copco’s. The processes of Carbide Hot inserting technology is as follows: “D” is the diameter of carbide hole on the steel body of the button bit, “d” is the diameter of the carbide. Before the button bit is put into the heating furnace, “d” is bigger than “D” by a very small amount. After heating the steel body of the button bit expands and this makes “D” equivalent to “d”. And then our engineers hammer carbide into the hole. After the temperature of steel body is chilled, the carbide hole contracts and hold the button firmly. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] d d d D d>D (Preparation for carbide inserting) D d=D (Carbide inserting) D ROCK TOOLS Carbide Cold inserting technology Considering the characters of soft rock drilling, we developed Carbide cold inserting technology and choose inexpensive raw materials to optimize the priceperformance ratio. The processes of Carbide Cold inserting technology is as follows: “D” is the diameter of carbide hole on the steel body of button bit, “d” is the diameter of carbide. Before carbide inserting, “d” is bigger than “D” by a very small amount. Because the steel body of the button bit has good elastic deformation propertys, the carbide hole can hold the carbide firmly after a hydraulic machine is used to press the carbide into the hole. JSI invented a set of special tooling machines and fixtures to ensure the carbides can be inserted into the carbide hole with absolute precision. The grade of our alloy steel is equivalent to Sandvik and Atlas Copco, and JSI tungsten carbide comes from ZCCCT who import advanced production line product from Sandvik and Element Six. The raw material of extension rods - JSI use is equivalent to Sandvik Sandbar 61. All raw materials used by JSI for rock drilling tools have passed the strict and long term testing process. Drill Connex Ltd, 69 Creek Street, Drury, Auckland Lance 021 998 762, [email protected] Charlie 021 742 620, [email protected] Glenn 021 855 963, [email protected] ROCK TOOLS Latest Technology to achieve perfect Design & Quality Control JSI threaded button bits are made by CNC production center. Carbide inserting technology adopts “Carbide hole one-drilling forming after heat treatment”, which omits the traditional processes such as “Carbide hole reaming”, “One carbide hole matches one carbide after carbide polishing” etc. Longterm quality stability of products can be ensured by avoiding human error in the production process. Advanced digital processing equipment makes the thread of extension rods and button bits more smooth, especially the thread end, which dramatically reduces the stress concentration and breakage at the thread end of the rods.
