The Higher Education Links Scheme facilitates progression to a variety of higher education courses via specific FETAC Level 5 Certificates and Level 6 Advanced Certificates. Under this scheme a number of places are reserved by higher education institutions for FETAC applicants for entry to a range of 3rd level courses. To make sure that YOU can travel abroad and use your Irish qualifications 32,000 students in over 250 colleges Wide range of courses both vocational and practical (nursing, beauty therapy, outdoor education, photography, web design, sport, etc.) Generally a pass leaving cert with both Maths and English; Progression to I.T.’s and universities; Entitled to a Susi grant Admission by interview, Apply directly to colleges in January to April 2015-late applications-vacant places Higher education institutes (HEI) in the university sector reserve small quotas of places on some programmes for FETAC applicants, who are presenting with FETAC Level 5 awards in courses with modules relating in content to the course they are applying to. (Traditionally 10%) You can’t assume that you will qualify for place with the min. entry requirements. For example with FETAC Nursing or Arts you will have to scoring the eight distinctions in your FETAC award to be considered for a place. The majority of the courses have continuous assessment. This includes written examinations, assignments, reports, oral presentations, skills demonstration and portfolios. Assessment can take different forms, depending on the course FETAC Level 5 courses are usually graded as follows. 80 – 100% Distinction 65 – 79% Merit 50 – 64% Pass 0 – 49% Unsuccessful CAP is common awards policy for award that is sanctioned by new body which has amalgamated HETAC, FETAC, NQAI, IUQB An overall point score is calculated based on the best 8 components presented in an applicant’s FETAC Level 5 Certificate or Level 6 Advanced Certificate. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) reserve a quota of places in specific courses for applicants presenting FETAC level 5 awards. Such applicants are assessed separately from ALL other applicants. 2. Applicants must have obtained a FULL FETAC Level 5 award. A Record of Achievement will not suffice. 3. Certain courses may require a Distinction in specific modules within the FETAC level 5 award, and certain courses may require a number of Distinctions, e.g. 5 Distinctions. 4. All HEIs consider only the best 8 Modules in a single award for the calculation of points. A Major award must be achieved. In some instances the University will require achievement of specific grades, and / or specified Components e.g. five distinctions, including minimum of pass in mathematics. results achieved in a single sitting, i.e. between 1 August–31 July are taken. The total maximum score that can be achieved is 400 points. In UCD, for example, quotas range from: 5 places in Commerce, 5in Social Science, 20 places in Science, 15 in Ag. science, food, dairy, forestry, horticulture etc. 10 in computer Science, 25 in Arts, 10 into nursing programmes 3 into Veterinary Nursing.. Grants can be applied for from www.studentfinance.ie or www.susi.ie Students who are entering an approved fulltime Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) course for the first time in 2015/16 or who are already attending approved PLC courses are eligible to apply for a maintenance grant. This grant does not cover the cost of registration or examination fees. It is a maintenance grant paid each month directly into the student’s bank account. Students apply for the PLC Maintenance Grant to www.susi.ie. It is not necessary for students to know the exact Course they will be attending in September in order to apply for a PLC Maintenance Grant. The initial decision regarding the grant is based solely on income. The PLC Maintenance Grant is a means tested grant. This involves an assessment of the earnings in the family (parents and candidate). See www.Susi.ie or www.studentfinance.ie All courses for the academic year 2015/2016 will be priced at €650 except for Healthcare and Multimedia courses which are €750 and Sound Engineering and Culinary Arts which have a price of €1050. (Two hundred and fifty euro refund if on a medical card) Payment of the full fee guarantees a student a place on the course that they have been offered. All Students can claim a refund for their courses up to September 20th of the year of enrolment. Demand for places is usually high.
