English Australia Conference 2015 Presentation Submission Guidelines INVITATION TO CONTRIBUTE English Australia invites you to make a contribution to the conference, and thus to the professional development of others working in ELICOS in teaching and learning, policy and management, marketing and staff and student support services, by presenting a session at the English Australia Conference. We are particularly interested in presentations and workshops that address the following topics: Looking ahead to our future-proactive planning Change Challenge Opportunity We will select submitted proposals that will complement sessions we are targeting, to form a balanced program that we hope will excite and interest all those working in ELICOS. All presenters (except for poster presenters) are eligible for a speaker registration discount. PRESENTATION TYPES TALK: Share research, innovation or good practice with delegates in a ‘lecture’ style of presentation, then answer audience questions. (40 mins including questions) WORKSHOP: Lead a workshop where participants actively develop their skills and knowledge, leading to new insightsand new connections. (40 mins, 85 mins including questions) PANEL: Convene a panel where three or four delegates with knowledge and expertise in a particular area explore an aspect of current relevance to ELICOS, then open it to the audience. (40 mins, 85 mins including questions) SWAPSHOP: Facilitate an interactive session where delegates share their news and views or tips and tricks on a particular topic or aspect of ELICOS management, teaching, learning, marketing or supporting. Get others together who share your challenge or passion! (40 mins, 85 mins including questions) POSTER: Display the main points of good practice, innovation or the ideas behind/outcomes of a research project at your college. Prepare a poster (portrait shape - 1m high x 80cm wide) using visual media. The posters will be displayed in the Exhibition area during morning tea on Thursday and Friday where you can discuss the content with interested delegates. Please note that poster presenters will not be eligible for the speaker registration discount. CONFERENCE STREAMS The Program Committee will be looking for presentations that address the conference theme for one of the following streams: Teaching and learning Management Marketing Student and staff support Information* *Please note presentations in this stream are an opportunity for industry partners to share insights and information with delegates and attract an additional fee (see Sponsorship & Exhibition). PROPOSAL SELECTION CRITERIA Want to make sure your proposal is accepted? The Program Committee will be looking for submissions that: are relevant to the theme of the conference; are relevant to current issues/challenges affecting ELICOS; have fresh/new content, or a fresh look at a perennial topic; are underpinned by sound pedagogical/methodological principles (as appropriate); and are relevant to an audience of those working in ELICOS. The Program Committee is particularly interested in sessions with a clear take-home benefit for delegates that can be shared in staffrooms and offices on return to their college. To read the English Australia information sheet Tips for writing a conference proposal, click here. PROPOSAL CONTENT GUIDELINES The Program Committee will consider all proposals carefully. To help them decide if yours should be included in the program, please do the following: The submitting presenter must ensure that all presenters have read and approved the title, summary, presenter names and ‘affiliations’. The presentation title must be no more than 12 words in length The summary/abstract must be no more than 250 words in length Submitters are asked to include a biography (for each presenter) with a maximum of 80 words per presenter. NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE Proposal presenters will be notified of acceptance or otherwise via email in early July 2015. The decision of acceptance of proposals is at the discretion of the conference Program Committee. ENGLISH AUSTRALIA AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTION TO PROFESSIONAL CLASSROOM PRACTICE If you are employed at a college registered on CRICOS in Australia to deliver ELICOS and your proposal for a Talk is accepted for the ‘Teaching and learning’ program stream you will be able to nominate for the English Australia Award for Contribution to Professional Practice, sponsored by Pearson. If you would like more information about this award click here. REGISTRATION Presenters are required to register for the conference by 15 July 2015. Speakers whose proposals are accepted for a talk/paper, workshop, panel and/or swapshop will be able to register for a discounted fee of $650. Specific registration information will be sent to presenters. If you don’t register by the due date your presentation may be withdrawn from the program. PUBLICATION OF PRESENTATIONS PDFs of all presentations will be published on the English Australia Conference website immediately after the conference.
