May 2015 Over 60s Newsletter Welcome to another month with OPAP! May is shaping up to be an extraordinarily busy month for OPAP and East Creek alike. For something a little different, I have organised the wonderful Merivale Cakes to come and do a decorating demo for our OPAP members. Please see the details below. Australian Hearing will also be here in May to offer free hearing checks to anyone who would like one. East Creeks annual Biggest Morning Tea will also be held this month on Wednesday the 27th. The aim of this morning tea will be to raise cancer awareness while also raising money for the Cancer Council– a very worthy cause. COTA (Council of the Aging) will be holding a regional forum for local seniors at the Toowoomba City Golf Club on the 20th of May. They would like to find out the issues that are being faced by seniors in this region. This is your chance for your voice to be heard and help make a change. To register for this event, please phone the toll free number listed on the flyer. You will find all the details for the above events inside your newsletter. Enjoy! Merivale Cakes We have a very special treat this month at OPAP. The multi-award winning cake decorators at Merivale Cakes in Highfields have offered to come down to the Centre for a cake decorating demonstration for our OPAP members. Merivale Cakes run their own cake decorating classes and are also involved in the Cobb and Co’s annual Have a Go Festival so they really know their stuff. The demonstration will be followed by a social OPAP afternoon tea. When: 1.00pm Thursday the 14th of May Venue: East Creek Community Centre Please RSVP for catering purposes.
