Dear Parents/Caregivers
I hope that Mother’s Day was a happy day for all of our wonderful mothers! It
was lovely to have so many of you join your children for lunch on Friday.
SYMPATHTY
Our thoughts are with Bronwyn Holgate, our Room 5 teacher, after the passing away of her
father last Thursday. Carmen Horne will be teaching in Bronwyn’s class this week.
TRAINEE TREACHERS FROM OTAGO UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
Welcome to Taylor-Jean Renalson who will be working in Room 4 and Rheanne Scoullar in
Room 1 for their two week practicum.
CYBERSAFETY INFORMATION EVENING FOR PARENTS – WEDNESDAY 20 MAY 7PM
Our children are growing up in a technological world which provides many opportunities for
learning, social contact, accessibility of the global environment - to name a few of the
benefits. However, there are challenges and cautions with online technologies that parents
need to be aware of and informed about in order to keep their children safe. Di Leonard and
Dave Hunter (Counsellor and Principal, Taieri College) will provide an overview of
cybersafety, digital citizenship, online technologies and how to maximise the safety and
wellbeing of children in our community. Wednesday 20 May at 7pm, East Taieri School.
GRANDPARENTS’ MORNING
Grandparents are invited to join their grandchildren this Friday 15th May
between interval and lunchtime (11.20am-12.40pm), then stay on for a
barbeque lunch. This gives children a great opportunity to share their learning
with grandparents.
A reminder that Rooms 9 & 10 have their Art Gallery visits Friday morning so will
be busy being artists.
BOOK CLUB ORDERS
Book Club orders close this Friday.
HEART FOUNDATION
We are having our Jump Rope for Heart Day on Friday 29 May. Children are reminded
about getting sponsorship cards filled.
EAST TAIERI CHURCH CARPARK
The East Taieri Church is hosting a conference from Tuesday 19-21 May. It would be
appreciated if parents did not park in the carpark during this time. Thank you.
HELPERS WANTED
The Home and School Committee are looking for helpers not as committee members, but as
friends of the H&S who can help out on occasions through out the year.

NETBALL
Dear Parents/Caregivers
The netball season is officially underway, with our two future fern teams playing their first games
on Saturday. It is great to see all players’ netball skills developing.
Each team is required to provide an umpire for their game. Thank you to those parents who have
umpired games.
If you are willing to help out a netball team by being an umpire this season this would be much
appreciated. There is an umpiring course in Dunedin tomorrow night (Tuesday 12 th) from 6:307:45pm. This course is targeted at umpires who are umpiring year 3-6 netball games.
If you are able to attend this course tomorrow night, register online at:
http://www.dunedinnetball.co.nz/courses/umpire , and let either myself or the netball team’s
coach know that you are able to umpire.
Regards,
Lisa Agnew
A HUGE thank you to everyone who has already supported this year’s Entertainment book
fundraiser and purchased or on-sold the books sent home to every family. Sales are looking
promising and with $12 from every book sold going directly to increasing the IT available for
the children of East Taieri School. This is a great fundraiser. There are only just over 40
books outstanding across the school. Please return book or payment asap. Books are still
available if anyone has further orders. Payment is able to made online via
www.entbook.co.nz/2601u57. Thanks again for the ongoing support for East Taieri
Home and School initiatives.
