Wausau East Forensics News
The Wausau East Forensics team completed a successful season at the state meet on Friday, April 17, on
the UW Madison campus. Over 5,000 Forensic participants throughout the state traveled to Madison for the
two day competition hoping to earn a perfect score of 25 and a gold medal.
Abby Sann, Meredith Eichelberger, Lucy Brown, Caitlinn Rosenberg, Aileen Ida and Temi Blagogee strongly
represented Wausau East and did not disappoint!
Lucy Brown, a freshman, earned a perfect score in
her first trip to state, bringing home a gold medal in
Special Occasion Speaking. In addition, seniors
Temi Blagogee and Aileen Ida had strong
performances, earning silver medals. Temi has
been to state the past three years and will be
greatly missed. Although this was Aileen’s first
year with East after transferring from another
school, she was a solid addition to the East team.
Abby Sann and Meredith Eichelberger performed
extremely well and earned a silver medal in Group
Interpretation, a great accomplishment for their first
year. Caitlinn Rosenberg, a junior, performed for
the first time in Oratory, and earned a bronze
medal in Farrago. We look forward to the team’s
positive attitude and leadership next year.
Congratulations to the entire East Forensics Team
on a great season! Your participation, time and
energy were appreciated by Mrs. Rohr and
Ms. Sailing. We look forward to next year!

Congratulations on a job well done!

interested are responsible for providing a bed/room, meals and

Attendance Matters!
You can’t learn if you aren’t in school. Whether it is medically excused or not, you need to be here to learn;
we need you here. Part of good attendance is also being on time to all classes each and every day as well as
starting school on time. Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting
in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in
school, struggling with school work, dealing with a conflict situation or facing some other potentially serious
difficulty. Missing ten percent, or about 18 days of the school year, drastically affects a student’s academic
success. Students can be chronically absent even if they only miss a day or two every few weeks.
Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child graduate from high school, college and keep a job.
(Excerpts taken from www.attendanceworks.org)
Below are our on-time numbers for March. We have not reached our goal of fewer than 700 tardies. The
consequence for late behavior is a detention. Failing to serve the detention in a timely manner may lead to
an in-school suspension. We’d rather have students in their classes, so BE ON TIME!!
Continued on page 8
Page 8
Behavior Data
Our behavior data continues to track at 90% which is great. This means the majority
of our students do the right things and demonstrate the Core Values on a daily basis
which leads to Lumberjack Pride. We have worked diligently on our behavior matrix
and expected behaviors in all areas as well as our Core Values of Respect, Integrity,
Compassion and Excellence. We believe in excellence in all we do – Lumberjack
Pride!

Wausau East Computer Club News
The Wausau East Computer Club had their spring LAN video game party on March 13 with 47 students
attending. The party featured game tournaments with Super Smash Brothers, Minecraft, Pokémon and Mario
Kart. Polito's Pizza (donated by the Gjerde family), soda and other snacks were included in the entry cost of
$5.00. Music was provided by club members. The LAN Party was a great time to have fun with video games

Wausau East DECA News
Since the start of the second semester, Wausau East DECA added multiple new members to help participate
in events and support our new chapter as the end of the year approaches. Recently, three students attended
the International Career Development Conference “Thrive Academy” in Orlando, FL. Congratulations to:
Logan Bailey, Jon Schafer and Marcus Snow. We are also proud to announce that we were recognized at
the International Conference as one of the top ten new chapters in the entire state of Wisconsin! With the
continuous efforts and hard work of all of our members, our program is continuing to grow and become more
involved in our community. Together we have made a lasting impression and a difference in so many lives.
We want to close out this year with a HUGE thank you to those who continue to support our Wausau East
DECA program, from our teachers and families to community members and business partners. We would
like to especially thank all of our business partners, whose sponsorships helped fund so many essential
materials and educational experiences that we could not have done without their support. This funding
helped provide students with the financial resources needed to engage in real life experiences that could
potentially inspire another generation of business leaders throughout the community. These partnerships
also led to relationships that will grow throughout the years, providing students the opportunity to learn from
and assist in “real life” business situations. Our 2014-15 business partners are: Kreger's Bakery, Eye Clinic
of Wisconsin, Briqs, Wausau Chemical Corporation, Campbell Haines Menswear, Aspirus Heart and Lung
Surgery, Quality Foods IGA, Woodson YMCA and Co-Vantage Credit Union.
Thank you to our 2014-15 leadership team, who have put in countless hours working with the program to
make all the events possible and to make sure that DECA will succeed in future years.

Vice Presidents - Tim Nass and Marcus Snow (Business Partnerships); Angela Flashinski and Sam

Coping with Test Anxiety
• Remember that a moderate degree of being “amped up” is actually helpful. It can perk up your brain
and help you think more clearly. Don’t mistake nervousness for an attack of test anxiety.
• Learn the material thoroughly. Feeling confident that you know the information you need is a great
anxiety reducer. You need to know the important terms and how these terms are connected to important
issues and concepts. Learning the material and identifying the important concepts can be hard work—but not
impossible. Don’t be surprised if it requires two or more hours of study outside of class for every hour you
spend in class.
• Sometimes considering the worst case scenario can help. If you were to fail this exam, what impact
would it have on your student career or your career plans? Realistically, even if the stakes are pretty high, life
has other good options for you. Name them (and be silly if it helps) and some of the edge will go off the
worry.
• Take advantage of social support. Find social support in other students who are taking the same course.
Seek them out and schedule a few group study sessions. Use these sessions to clarify concepts and to
anticipate what will be on the next examination.
• Use relaxation training techniques. Relaxation training will help you learn to calm both mind and body.
Once you acquire some of the techniques, you will be able to apply them before a test or whenever you feel
that anxiety threatens to run away with you.

Band Camp!
East Cross Country
The 2015 Lumberjack Marching Band will hold two
Summer Band Camps in preparation for our fall
marching season. All Band and Color Guard students
going into grades 9-12 for 2015-2016 are required to
attend the camps. The design and music for this year’s
show are still “under construction,” however, all
students should expect to be issued all of the music for
the camps before the end of the current school year.
They should spend time practicing and preparing their
parts prior to the camps.
Camp #1: July 20-22, 9:00-11:30 AM and 1:004:30 PM
Camp #2*: August 19-21, 9:00-11:30 AM and 1:00 4:30 PM
The 111th Annual Athens World Fair Parade is Sunday,
August 23. This is our first performance of the season!

fall sports practices and the second camp. Please be
diligent about communicating with Mr. Perkins, as we
can work out most conflicts.
The Wausau East Cross Country program would
like to welcome any and all adventurous and
fitness minded student-athletes to join our running
family. East Cross Country has been a successful
program over the last 15 years. In that time, the
boys have finished in the top three at the
conference meet nine times, qualifying for the
state meet twice (2005 and 2012) with at least one
All-Conference runner each of those years. The
girls have had their own success, finishing in the
top three at the Conference meet in seven of the
last ten years with five trips to the state meet
including two state championships (2009, 2010).
The girls have also won the individual crown at the
conference meet six times and have had four
different girls earn 1st Team All-State honors a
total of seven times. We are very proud to say that
each of the teams that have qualified for state
have also earned Academic All-State honors.
The 2015 season will start on Sunday, August 16
with our traditional midnight practice to kick off the
season. There will be summer training
opportunities, open to anyone interested, available
on Monday and Wednesday mornings from late
June until the season starts. For more information
