The Cause
Approximately 500,000 children and adults in San Diego County have difficulty reading
and most of them are native English speakers. In response, the San Diego Council on
Literacy (SDCOL), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, recently launched LITERACY 20/20, a five-year
comprehensive campaign to advance literacy rates within the County by the year 2020.
The Event
The San Diego Council on Literacy’s (SDCOL) sixth annual “Eat.Drink.Read. A Culinary
Event for Literacy” features more than 15 chefs from San Diego County’s most prominent
restaurants. Each chef creates and serves a dish inspired by his or her favorite book.
Winemakers and craft breweries pair libations to match the dishes. Local chocolatiers,
bread makers, coffee roasters and other artisanal food purveyors offer samples.
Entertainment and free parking are provided.
Who Attends
The 2014 event was an absolute sell out, with more than 350 supporters ranging from
young professionals to corporate leaders in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.
Attendees included foodies and craft beer aficionados; corporate leaders in STEM,
Health, Finance and other sectors impacted by literacy rates; civic leaders; education
leaders (teachers to university presidents); literacy program leaders; elected officials, and
the media.
Sponsorships
Sponsorships and sponsorship levels are described on the attached form. Donations are
tax deductible and your gift will be acknowledged by SDCOL with a letter of receipt.
