Personal Finance Summer Session I 2015 Finance 3715 University of Connecticut Overview Effective personal financial management is essential to meet lifetime financial goals. This course is designed to provide students with practical financial management skills that will enable students to identify their personal financial goals, and to plan and make financial decisions that will help them reach those goals. Topics include planning, budgeting, investing, effective use of cash and credit, taxes, insurance, housing and automobile purchases, and retirement planning. Since so many financial decisions involve looking at cash flows, basic financial math (time value of money) will be introduced and used. Instructor: Professor Katherine A. Students need to have regular reliable internet access, plus strong self-discipline and time management skills. For the summer session, we will cover 2-3 topics per week. For each topic, students are expected to: read the assigned reading and review additional active learning resources complete personal financial plan worksheets (submitted and graded at end of semester) complete and submit a homework assignment (submitted and graded each week) participate in an online group discussion (submitted and graded each week) Quizzes: on-line, multiple choice Quizzes are open during the weeks listed. There are no make-ups, so please plan according. The lowest quiz will be dropped.
