My mom is special - poem
According to pg. 61 of the CAPS for Grade 1 English
Home Language Term 2, learners should read poems and
rhymes. Learners should listen to a story or poem and
answer open and closed ended questions about the story
or poem.
In this worksheet learners will read a poem about mom.
The educator can explain the concept of rhyme and give
the learners examples of words that rhyme such as
“hand” and “land”.
The educator can read the poem again to the learners
and ask the learners to carefully listen to which words in
the poem rhyme.
The learners should circle the rhyming words.
Answer: hand and land, tea and me, heart and smart.
The teacher can ask the learners questions about the
poem to check the learner’s comprehension of the poem.

2.What does mom do? Mom does many things for the
child. She also cooks and makes tea for the child.

3.How does the child feel about mom? The child loves
