For example: paint – painted; carry – carried;
revise - revised
Irregular verbs do not follow this rule.

2. Read this fable and rewrite it in the past tense. Circle the irregular verbs. What is the moral of the story?
The cat discovers many mice in the house that night. She begins to catch and eat
them, one by one. The mice are nervous. They fear for
their lives. They huddle together in their holes. The cat
decides to trick them to come out because she is very
hungry. She hangs on to a light that hangs from the
roof and pretends to be dead. One mouse peeps out
and sees her hanging there as though she is dead. The
mouse says, “Dear cat, although you look as though
you are dead, we will not come near you.“
3. Complete these sentences in the past tense.
