making it their monsoon capital (Pune being
drier than Mumbai), laying grounds for the
graceful cantonment of today. This is where
Lokmanya Tilak brought out his newspaper
and where the British imprisoned Mahatma
Gandhi for two years.
Bustling and commercial, leafy and
slow, cosmopolitan and vintage,
Pune effortlessly adds up to more
than the sum of its parts. It is a city
where history often asserts itself,
but with a careless lightness.

Celebrated as Maharashtra's cultural capital,
Pune houses a plethora of educational
institutes, museums and hill forts. Besides
being a cultural and educational hub, Pune
has ample attractions to satiate most
visitors. Pune, with its glorious
Maratha history and Osho connection, a
host of sightseeing attractions, pleasant
weather, and a largely dynamic crowd of
students and young professionals, proves
wonderful for a vacation. The list of not to
be missed attractions is infinite here but a
couple of most interesting hot spots are the
Pataleshwar Rock-cut temple and the
Sinhagad Fort. The temple is dedicated to
martyred Maratha heroes, while the fort is
well for a grand Maratha triumph over
Mughal invaders.
Lastly, this is the city where Shivaji spent his
childhood. This was the capital of the
Maratha confederacy at the height of its
power — the Peshwas’ Pune. This is where
the British defeated the Marathas in 1817,

that is celebrated with much zest and
grandeur here. Devotees from all across
Maharashtra visit this temple during the
festival and pay their respects to Lord. The
temple was built by Dagadusheth Halwai in
the year 1893. He was a sweet mart seller
who went on to become a wealthy
businessman and since he was an ardent
devotee of Lord Ganesha, he took a great
interest in building this beautiful temple.

Neelkantheshwar Temple
The best time to start for
Neelkantheshwar temple is either before 11
am or post 4 pm as evenings are quite
pleasant. If you start at 4 pm, you will be
able to reach there within 1 hour and 30
minutes. Spend some time there and enjoy
the mesmerising views as the sun settles
down for the day.
Prince Aga Khan Road, Sangamvadi,

Ever thought that a museum could have a
light and sound show? Sounds intriguing,
doesn't it? Well, we bring to you Darshan
Museum, which offers exactly what we just
mentioned above. Coming back to the show,
the 100 minute saga illustrates the life of
Sadhu Vaswani and takes you through his
entire life cycle. The show is an artistic
retreat and a technological masterpiece at
the same time. It implements the Pepper's
Ghost technology for creating the real 3D
effects where the set is real but the actors
are merely projections of light. You can also
treat yourself to a large spectrum of artwork
that is housed at the museum. If you want
to indulge yourself in some visual treats,
No vehicles are allowed and the only way is
walking. You need to keep some important
tips-don’t start your journey between 11 am
to 4 pm unless the weather is pleasant as
you will be exhausted due to excessive heat.
However, you can have some Nimbu Pani
and Buttermilk on your way that are sold by
the local vendors.

Popularly known as Red Temple or Lal

blend of architectural wonder and divinity.
You can’t help but admire the design and
the interesting use of colours- it has been
built in neo-Gothic style with red brick and
stone and has a unique feel attached to it.
History tell us that the place was built by
Late David Sassoon in the year 1863. Mainly
dedicated to the Jewish Community, the

- By Karen AnandDecorIt was a while since I
stepped into Seasonal Tastes at the Westin.
It started off a couple of years ago with a
bang and soon became the smartest all day
dining / five star coffee shop in town. The
lovely fresh blue and white decor then paled
somewhat while other five stars emerged on
the Pune scene.FoodI am happy to
comment that Seasonal Tastes is back on
top with a mind boggling variety
ofrnbreakfast offerings which range from
the healthy to the internationally
spectacular and to all time Indian regional
favourites. The Westin internationally prides
itself on its 'wellness' options in all aspects
of the hotel. The food is no exception. I love
the idea of customised breakfast options.
Travel Guide - http://www.ixigo.com/travel-guide/
The Westin breakfast sets are largely
western with combos of cereals, fruit and
pastries. The Japanese one with teriyaki
salmon, tofu and Japanese omlette sounds
intriguing and the Asian one with
Vietnamese chicken noodle soup (pho ga),
dim sum and congee, downright tempting.
All this in Pune? Wait, there's more Indian
combos...healthy combos with fruit and
vegetable juices (my carrot and ginger was
spot on), oatmeal and banana brule, cereals
with fruit, home-made muesli and granola
it's all so well thought out and leaves no
breakfast stone unturned.along with all the
cuisines and options, you have the regular
buffet which is by no means 'regular' by any
stretch of the culinary imagination - muffins,
pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, sandwiches,
salads, fruit and juices, eggs to order and
appams, dosa and idli freshly made, a whole
bunch of really well executed north and
south Indian favourites, fried rice and
noodles. The dinner buffet has also changed
to include focus on a singular international
cuisine daily. And the prices for this quality
of food and service are as unbelievable.
Buffet breakfast is under 700 including tax
and combos range from 250 to 550 which
includes tea and coffee. The newish
